If you're trying to make gold in Sea of Thieves, then you arrived at the right destination, my friends. Because I am about to bestow upon you my knowledge.. Of how to make money. And not just that-- I am here to show you how to make money FAST!
Farming gold is one of the corner stones of Sea of Thieves and that hasn't changed in 2022. Quite the opposite, in fact, Season 6 has only opened up MORE opportunities to Level Up fast.
But despite popular belief, the Gold Hoarders aren't the secret to making money. Nay, the Merchant Alliance are the true heroes when it comes to the art of farming gold.
Let me take you on a journey, showing you how I go about completing Commodity Runs with a bit of a twist. Enjoy!

I remember when trade routes were first added, I was doing commodity runs solo and ended up in an alliance which quite quickly spread to the whole server. With almost everyone doing merchant stuff, I got the emissary boost for the things everyone else sold as well. I think I got about a million gold in like 2 hours.

Another way to upgrade you Emissary is to do a single lost shipment voyage. It usually levels you up to Grade 5 if you get all of the loot, including the bits you dig up and/or find in the ocean.

That's another really good one! It's probably more efficient than forts but I find clearing them more fun than doing shipment voyages

yeah thats was always my way to go too ... but i thought they changed the gold you get bcs first you got a lot and later they reduced the prices but also the win of the crates its just like 2000-3000 k max with lvl 5 emissary

Hey Cliff. Commodities raise your emissary level when you sell it. So you don't have to up the level before doing the trade routes. You will get more money off the trade routes if you do it the way you describe but it does increase the upfront time investment. This coming from a Pirate Legend who hit both 50 and 70 in Merchant Alliance before 50 in any other faction. I've loved the Alliance for a long time.

Yeah I made a little foot-note in the video about that, I just don't find it "worth" using commodities to level up your emissary flag because the proper trade routes keep getting me in trouble so I rather find different means of leveling up, take a safer route and then sell all of it at once

@@CliffTheStoryGuy I find it works best to combine sunken ships with commodities, but G&G is a great technique. Also highly recommend sorting commodities on your deck and selling the high value ones at the appropriate outposts as you go. So many monies!

@@cmpalmer 1 lost shipmnet voyage is a guaranteed rank 5 if you loot the Captain's Cabin, after which just doing commodity runs will guarantee maximum profit while avoiding sitting with a bunch of things on your ship.

Started playing SoT about 4 days Ago maybe a week, and cliff is the reason I still play it. His enthusiasm and narration makes the game so much more fun. Met a 2 man reaper crew while doing order of souls the other day, instead of attacking us we formed an alliance and went to every ship we could find and tried to get them in the alliance. Eventually we had 4/5 of the ships in the alliance, and we decided to do a fort of the damned with the reaper crew. We split the loot amongst who needed it most, and went our seperate ways. Made like 400k or some shit, was a good session.

I do lost shipments with my 6 yr old. There's a route south on the map from devils ridge to the finest trading post. It's the same route both ways so we run one route going west to find the key and loot the wreck. Then we immediately vote another and do the same thing going east. It's very easy money because after a few trips you remember every spot. Underrated moneymaker.

I have been grinding the sea forts alone on a sloop. I found out that they reset after you leave them so if you find one that is close to an outpost, you can just go back and forth and slowly build up your gold! It can get boring after about 3 runs but well worth it if you are just wanting easy money!

dude I found your channel like two weeks ago and you've grown so much since then i swear you were at 10k subs not too long ago, love your content and I also wanted to add that I've found a single sunken ship run will get you up to a level 4 emissary plus some if you collect everything in the captains quarters, it's a very effective mission if your goal is purely gaining money and I recommend you try it out and possibly make a video about it, lots of money to be made there my friend

I’ve done this a lot, I wouldn’t use the sea forts to get to level 5 (I might hit one for supplies), but the shipwrecked quests are definitely the best and fastest way to get to level 5. At that point, you can sell the commodities at a different outpost (sell all of it, you’ll still be in profit), buy more, then sail to the next outpost. Especially as a solo slooper, there is no reason to stack 5 outposts worth of commodities

I don’t really attack merchants, not because I feel bad for them because I find merchant stuff boring, because Merchants scare me, I’ve had my teeth kicked in and ship turned to Swiss cheese so quickly more by a Merchant rather than the reapers….I’ll fight a reaper but not a merchant

I have a few sort of “trade routes” that I transport loot on. It’s essentially paths that are made for A: efficiency B: money C: safety. An example would be liars backbone to tri-rock-isle to shiver retreat to skull keep to isle of last words to dagger tooth outpost. A lot of routes in the ancient isles share something in common. A lot of them include going into the southern area of the map with no islands. This is for safety.

I love doing the merchant alliance quests because to me it's mainly a chill time even solo. Me and my brother pretty much do merchants exclusively while also picking up odds and ends during the voyage. The entire time my brother fishes cuz he wants to get his hunters call to 50, mad lad I know. Don't get me wrong we defend our loot with a fierceness if people come at us I out of nowhere. And I like to consider any loot I get that way while doing merchant quest makes me a privateer and not a pirate. Same thing just one has an employer.

From what I understand, the most efficient way to do this would be to do a Lost Shipment (or fort(s)) at the beginning of the voyage to get the Emissary to Rank 5, then sail in a large circle around the map, picking up the surplus and regular commodities at each outpost, and selling the demanded items as you go along, rather than selling them once at Morrow's Peak.

My personal thing I do every Gold and Glory weekend, is the Pirates' Life Tall tale. The first one, once. Double gold applies to the loot piles in that one, as well as Tall tale completion credit.

@@CliffTheStoryGuy not positive; loot piles yielded about... I believe 6 or 7 K total, after multipliers, and the tall tale bonus is about 8k, before the Gold and Glory Multiplier... I wanna say a modest 15 to 20K. Not nearly as much as what you daring rogues made. Save that for plan Z, if you're looking to jump servers.

I negotiated with reapers last night and formed an alliance after they killed me twice. I told them id be operating in yhe area for a while and us fighting each other is bad for profit. In the long run id make them more money if theyd let me operate. They agreed, they also brought another reaper into the alliance and we made loads of cash. They protected me by hunting the other ships while I kept the gold flowing. Plus they were selling regularly as well.

Me and my various sloop aides have recently been running the athena flag, while doing only the order pages of both regular and ashen athenas, then we turn in the athena loot and swap our flag for an Order flag. We sail one or two order quests to rank the flag up, then turn in the skulls. Nets 500+ for a 5 hour venture. And generally i start solo and do about 80% of the legwork, then pick up an aide near the end for the sale.

Merchant is one of the best ways to make gold. You can make around 42k in one voyage with a level 5 flag which you can also get to level 5 in just one voyage. Crazy op

@@Thaijler I don't think I've ever seen a Reaper Galleon. Not to mention that merchants can be surprisingly violent if you threaten them. Apparently they'll fight to the bitter end to keep their plants and easily shattered bottles.
