Hundreds of climate activists gathered at the global headquarters of Citigroup in New York on Wednesday to demand the banking giant stop financing fossil fuel companies. The protests come on the heels of a first-of-its-kind Earth Day hearing where environmental activists from around the world gathered in New York this week to condemn what they call Citigroup's environmental racism. Citibank is the world's second-largest funder of coal, oil and gas. "They always say, 'We care about the planet,' … but actions speak louder than words," says Alice Hu, climate campaigner for New York Communities for Change. "Citibank has poured over $332 billion into fossil fuels since the Paris Agreements were signed in 2015." We also speak with Roishetta Ozane, a Black environmental leader from Sulphur, Louisiana, who has been leading the fight against the expansion of Citigroup-funded liquified natural gas projects in her community. She says she has seen the health impacts of such projects on her own family. "I'm fighting not only for myself and my community, but for my children. And by fighting for my children, I'm fighting for everyone's children," says Ozane.

Dear US Government, I am from Russia, from the Republic of Ingushetia, our people have been subjected to genocide since time immemorial, Russia never listened to us, but other regions listened and gave and are still giving them our lands, we don’t have lands left anyway, and those occupied are not for us they return, I understand that this is a policy of divide and conquer. please give me the opportunity to leave Russia for me and my family, I will be useful for America, I can become a farmer and be useful. Communism is evil; it doesn’t bother me; I’m under constant stress in Russia..!?!?!?

Don’t worry. It’ll probably slow down once large parts of the world are uninhabitable and the oceans mostly devoid of life. Grew up down there, and the oil industry has largely ruined the coastal wetlands, poisoned the water, and large areas of southern Louisiana smell like a refinery. Katrina wouldn’t have been as bad as it was if much of the wetlands were not cut up for ship channels and various other access projects and thus washed away. I’m pretty sure that the warming of the oceans and atmosphere probably didn’t help reduce the power of that storm, either. The impact of that storm completely changed the character of New Orleans, through mass deaths, flat out destroying everything, and then the wave of non-local investors and opportunists who came in to fill the void of all the displaced and killed residents. It’s a different place than when I was growing up. Not for the better, either. All for what? So a handful of people, in the grand scheme of things, could become wealthier, though with a few adjustments, just as much money could have probably been made in a different, non-apocalypse-inducing way. And of course, all the first company heads who knew that global climate change would be a disastrous effect of their efforts, probably all dead by now. Didn’t get to take all that money with them, either…

“I accepted to come to this meeting to have a sober and mature conversation. I’m not in any way signing up to any discussion that is alarmist. There is no science out there, or no scenario out there, that says that the phase-out of fossil fuel is what’s going to achieve 1.5C.” - Sultan Al Jaber, President of COP 28, also CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Mukhtar Babayev will be the president for COP 29; he is also a former executive of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijian Republic. Seems more and more likely, scenario SSP5-8.5 of the IPCC assessment may come to fruition (or at least the higher end of the spectrum). I say enjoy what you can, while you still can; pity the generations to come.

Do you have children or grandchildren? Because they will see if not your life time but theirs fossil fuels run little to nothing in the whole world meaning what for something that is rare and highly sought-after, high prices that only the 1% of the world will be able to afford so if there is less than 50 years left of fossil fuels on earth which is one problem. Another are coal miners and oil rig workers life expectancy not very long and a lot of suffering from cancers and COPD plus what happens when we drill through fresh water and salt water to get to oil that is so pressurized its sure to leak into that water and how can we clean up a spill in an underground water aquifer and how easy to clean up an ocean spill? Next why use something that takes millions of years to create and if you can't see that climate change is real and every year it gets 10x worse and the domino effect that's happening is making this the 6th extinction and final because the rate nothing will be able to evolve fast enough because your 1.2 degree change isn't taking this domino effect that is exponentially causing all life on earth to become extinct with no time for evolution to create adaptations until maybe humanity is wiped out. And all of this isn't even getting to the point that human greed and the love of money and power has caused humanity to be a slave to a worldwide system that is making people and the earth sick for profit and then uses another company by the same owners and governments to make money with insurance companies, Healthcare systems, and pharmaceutical companies. And if you think that we need oil companies and electric companies then explain why mars rovers and helicopter have been running on mars and sending daily information back to earth for 10+ years and what mars gas station or electric company are they using? mind you with no maintenance for the past 10 years. So now think about what in nature uses fossil fuel to convert to energy because nothing man has made nature or universe hasn't already perfected so does all life on earth ingest something and convert it to energy? Is a vehicle similar to a living body? But who is keeping unlimited energy innovations from being produced so should money give a person power to decide how we live?

Fossil fuels are ok as long as it's being appropriated with genuine care for people , planet and life forms . Not Greed

The organizing and advocacy/protests of groups like this are the ONLY reason the Biden administration has taken the action it has; and much more is needed given Biden’s approval of massive fossil fuel infrastructure projects like the Sea Port Oil Terminal and the Willow Project, record levels of oil extraction right now. So you’ve got it backwards - this kind of work is critical and deserving of more support.

@bobbybooshay8641 1 month ago I'm 62 years old and have been crabbing on the same creek in south Jersey for about 55 years. The same water level now as when I was a kid. The banks of the creek are in the same spot. The bridge over Route 9 and the bulkheads get the same water height now as when I was kid. There is absolutely no man made global warming and certainly no sea level rise.
@vashtivanniasingham6354
@vashtivanniasingham6354 15 күн бұрын
Do you expect the freshwater in Jersey you are talking about to be less or more? It matters because most people don't use the term global warming anymore because the confusion caused like yours happens so it's climate change which means extreme weather and at our north and south pole where water is frozen miles deep and hundreds of miles wide and because earth is warming globally it is melting the ice at the poles which is causing sea levels to rise and where would you see that happen the most, starting at earth's equator 🌎 which is earth's bulge so that is not to say Jersey wouldn't see ocean levels rise at your latitude but it's greater at the equator and then because global temperatures are getting higher at the equator the hottest location on earth is at the equator so if they are even higher because of global warming then it's causing more evaporation of water and stronger and bigger hurricanes are being formed near the equator and because water temperatures are higher they are hitting the northern continent stronger so global warming doesn't mean like Trump said sunny and 70* everywhere it means extreme weather and a domino effect causing extreme climate change so earth global warming causes a problem for all of earth because of the ice melting at poles and higher temperatures in the ocean at the equator causes more of the cycle evaporation, condensation and precipitation which is what happens stronger and more frequently producing tropical storms and hurricanes and that is just talking about one time of year in one part of the northern hemisphere but the other season in this hemisphere which we are going through now is spring and with that we see more tornadoes happening in the Midwest because of cold air mixing with hot air and like winter did the north eastern part of United States not see record snow storms and the amount of snow because of moisture in the atmosphere due to global warming. So don't be ignorant and think global warming means sunny and 70* because it means extreme weather and climate changes so start educating yourself on climate change and there are satellite images, social media posts and videos of the north and south pole ice sheets melting and you can compare for your self the change over the past few years and then research your areas changes over a season with snow, rainfall, temperature, and any other climate data of past years looking at a specific season then say global warming and sea level rising isn't happening because actually there are buoy data located in the ocean and granted tides happen and can change with moon cycles but you can also see a distinct ocean rise based on past years data so no scientists from every field and multiple countries are conspiring and fudging data for a government or anyone to scare people for money but if scientist are scared then know we are in big trouble and they don't believe something with out data that is not subjective data but objective data which is measurable so sorry if you think people should take your subjective data about global warming because I highly doubt Jersey has no affects from global warming!!
