Climbing Mt. Kazbek [5054m] - How to do it without guide and alone

I take you with me to a three days mountaineering expedition in the caucasus of georgia. Get an impression of what it takes to climb this 5000m high mountain to judge for yourselfe, if you can do it too.

my goal was to get to the basecamp at 3600m in one day and back. had no equipment bar my school backpack with water and food, jacket, snickers and adidas trousers. super trashy basecamp place, very fiilthy place so i continued a bit further towards the mini church where you had some footage from. insanely good hike thats starts down by the trinity church, or further down in the village of stepantsminda. had no chance of doing the final ascent without proper gear. was starting to get really cold, cramps, and my thin shoes were getting soaked. i started laughing when i saw how miserable you looked after 16h+ hiking in one day on your way down as i went through a similar process. if you are fit enough in elevation training you can get quite far up the mountain without good shoes but i would recommend some dense dry food and warm clothes/windstopper once you get above 3k m. the path is clear, safe, and 1 whole day gave fantastic views.

Du bist echt krass, Drei Woche Mountainbiken, anschließend noch auf den 5000er und kaum zurück in D schon wieder auf dem Sprung ins Himalaja Abenteuer. Bin gespannt aufs die nächsten Videos. Good Luck 🍀

Phantastische Gipfeltour mit wieder einmal sensationellen Aufnahmen. Bin wieder restlos begeistert 🤩 Das Wettertiming war ja perfekt und dass Du die zwei lettischen Estländer (ich musste googeln, wie man die nennt) getroffen hast ist klasse. Nicht auszudenken, da nicht hochgehen zu können. Ich denke, Du hättest das dann alleine gemacht. Unvernunft hin oder her. Mit Vernunft kommt man nicht immer weiter 😉 Ich bin gespannt aufs nächste Abenteuer, drücke die Daumen und wünsche Dir viel Spaß!

You did follow a group and joined a group. So its not alone and not without guide. From beginning you wanted to follow/join others so is misinformation anway great job and congratulation. All the best for you

Bin dort letztes Jahr gewesen, wir sind mit meiner Freundin, drei Esten, zwei Polen und einem Briten nach oben gegangen. Das Wetter war aber mega schlecht und wir haben es leider nicht geschafft, wir waren nur auf dem Gletscher und sind zurück nach Stepantsminda gelaufen :D. Aber geil, dass du es geschafft hast. Gruß aus Tschechien!

Da gehören mehrere Faktoren dazu damit es klappt.. Wetter ist wohl der wichtigste..kann man nicht beeinflussen 🤷‍♂️hfftl klappts beim nächsten mal 😉 Danke dir und grüße nach Tschechien 😉

Hi thanks for posting this video, I liked and subbed, was very useful as I plan on going here soon. Can you tell me how long did it take for you to get from stepantsminda to bethlemi, bethlemi to the top and from the top to stepantsminda?

Hey thanks a lot 🙏 if I remember correct stepanzminda to Bethlehem around 4-6h, stepanzminda to top around 6-8 hours and top to stepanzminda around 10..so if you do summit and back to stepanzminda you will have a long day of 18hours of hiking 😉

@@stuart4341 you will need all the mountain equipment you need for glacier expeditions..like harness, rope, ice axe, glasses, helmet, carabinas, etc

Hi Peter, Hattest Du oder deine Begleiter Rettungsausrüstung wie die Lose Rolle oder Reepschnüre dabei? Und habt ihr euch mit Eisschrauben Fixpunkte gesetzt oder nur als 3er Seilschaft hoch? Danke für das Video und deine Antwort :)

Hi Michel, wir sind einfach als dreier seilschaft hoch. Fixpunkt setzen ist nicht nötig. technisch relativ einfach weil täglich begangen 👍 vg

@@Christer_Nannestad in August there was a little fresh water spring, yes.. no guarantee for the rest of the year. But you could always melt snow to get water, so no worries 😉

Hi, I wanted to climb Mount Kazbek as well, I was in Georgia two months ago, Heard there were many hidden crevasses on the glacier and I couldn't find a partner during that time being. So I cancelled my plan. But I'll go back to Georgia in the mid of May, Let's see how it goes,. If you still want to climb Mount kazbek, maybe we can partner up?

Hi :) Planning to do this in August and dont want to pay for an agency. Do you prebooked the night in the hut? And how good is the way marked, easy to find to the hut? From the hut to the summit, I will do the same as you. Find some people and then follow the groups. Equipment you rented in Kazbegi, right?

Hey! Cool! Good luck already for your attempt 😉 no I didn't book in advance.. so if you have bad luck and there is no space, you will have to go back down. To the Hut is easy. To the summit you walk on a glacier, so you should Look for a group, like I did 👍 rented my gear in stepanzminda above the supermarket 😉

Hey mate. I've only climbed smaller mountains (1700m max). I don't have any training about glaciers or crevices, etc. I'm young and fit, thank God. Do you think a group would agree to let me join them for the summit climb?

Hey mate. I would suggest gaining experience on easier mountains first. If you walk in a rope on a glacier, you should have the knowledge to safe the others in case they fall into a craverse.. that's the idea of walking in a rope. If you can't do that, you shouldnt ask strangers in my opinion or take a guide group. Cheers 😉

@@peterbaumeister Hey hey, thanks for the indepth response. I get your point. Solo climbing could be another option. I've seen someone else do this on KZfaq. I would just have to watch out for crevices. And maybe it's possible to climb a few smaller mountains in the area before. Let me know if that sounds crazy to you, or just slightly risky and something to be cautious about. I could always follow behind other groups and watch where they step. There are two gear rentals in stepanzminda ..I rented from the one above the supermarket. And from tibilisi there are minibuses to stepanzminda 👍

Hi. How dangerous are the falling rocks and the crevasses? I hope you can follow the footprint of previous groups and there's not real danger if you're cautious..

No mountain is "easy" ..so these dangers are always there. Glaciers move constantly so I can only talk for the time I was there: back than the footprints were good to see and no hugh craverses along the way 😉
