Thank you! I was confusing a mordent with a turn - it's only been 20+ years since my organ instructor introduced me to mordents and I apparently "absorbed" it as what is actually a turn!

13 years playing piano and I never knew. Prelude in e minor by chopin. Simultaneously with a stretto right before a sustain pedal note. Thought it was the same as a stretto. Heard a great recording of it and noticed he played a turn so I pulled out my sheet music again an noticed the sideways s. Thank tou

Thank you. The Mozart example you give at the end has dotted semi quaver. Would the turn start later due to the dot?
