Nah man, that room had some powerful people in it, and he went in practically screaming. I would be terrified. You can even tell a lot of people are genuinely not impressed with his presence in the audience if you focus. Props to him for doing this.

@@gcart7675 humor is a sign of intelligence. I also agree, in France, a lot of popular comedians come from the best ranked schools. The ability to take a joke and to make a good joke is the sign of someone that has very high emotional intelligence. Emotionally intelligent people are good at creating efficient and loyal teams as well as command respect. On the opposite high IQ people with low IQ don't really go as far in life.

Obama is especially remarkable in hindsight, knowing we went from one of the fifteen greatest POTUS of all time - Obama - to one of the three worst. Obama's up there with Madison, Monroe, JFK, and Reagan. Meanwhile Trump's legacy aligns with that of Buchanan and Andrew Johnson. Any honest person, regardless of political leanings, can acknowledge this. On top of that, W is probably among the worst 15 and Biden is probably in the top 20. We need more quality GOP candidates.

It's the fact that Obama made jabs at himself in his act. Like the camera constantly panned over the audience to show half the room were lifeless husks who couldn't show emotion beyond their partisan politics, so seeing Obama end the whole act by making fun of himself was amazing.

The fact that this is real, and actually happened is crazy AF to me. When I saw the thumbnail in my recommendations I though Key was standing in front of a green screen with some sort of recorded speech playing behind him as he translated President Obama's anger!!! It was a pretty good reflection of the man himself; He had a very polished and poised public persona, but underneath he was human, and when the situation warranted, he did not hesitate to let his emotions speak. I may not have agreed with him on many points, but I can at least say I felt he represented our country well as an individual and as a leader.

Since the 1920s the dinner has long featured a professional comedian slinging jokes about the assembled journalists, administration types and the president. The president usually takes to the dais to give as good as he gets, roasting the journalists who cover him and inflicting a few self-deprecating zingers. Luther a character from the comedy sketch show is reenacting a famous skit with President Obama.

This was the pinnacle of WHC dinners for me. I never really tuned into them until the last few years, covid withstanding, but watching them back this is one of my favorite. It's great to see a leader of the nation show some humor, humble themselves a bit, and show that they are willing to engage with the press even though they can seem at loggerheads all the time. Obama was particularly good at these dinners but Bush was also respectably present, humble, and lighthearted at them. Trump on the other hand, who couldn't even muster the balls to attend, is like the dude from Weird Al Yankovic's song 'I remember Larry' who seemingly can't take a joke and when he tries to deliver one, it's more like he's committing homicide.
