I'm a first-generation german jew and I never thought I'd find this kind of gag routine funny, but here we are. key and peele are hilarious and Ty Burrell is surprisingly agile at his role, especially considering how he's usually type-cast as the wholesome 'family man'.

However, I think there are a lot of reasonable people who dislike blackface, due to the TON of anti-black propoganda that used to be spread while people would do it. Wow. I’ve only watched Ty Burrell in modern family. Him playing this role was incredible. Totally believable. The underlying music added to the whole scene as well. Key and peele excellent too. Excellent scene.

All brilliance and depth of the plot in this sketch aside, I want to also give credit, after returning to visit this sketch years later, this is shot and scored SO cinematically well. If the comedy was eliminated, this could be a perfect shot by shot moment of tension in a serious war movie. I love this actor they chose for the villain, its always a great sketch when someone in the casting is cast with VERY sincere dramatic acting, and the other casts act as the goofy/meta aware character who's aware of just how absurd the story actually is.

@@tarapita True, but there was Standartenführer, although this Nazi appears to be Obersturmbannführer, which equates to Lieutenant colonel, and he appears to have been awarded the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub (Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves), but for some reason still displays his Kriegsorden des Deutschen Kreuzes (German Cross), I'm not sure that is correct, and the band on his Knight's Cross looks strange, the red stripe is too thin, and it should be worn under the collar. And someone could probably reprimand him for wearing his belt like that as well. But considering how hilarious these guys are, I'll let it slide...;-)

Well, the actor who plays the Commander part is actually of African descent...his great great grandmother was the daughter of a slave and her "owner". It is an incredibly moving story...you can watch it on Finding Your Roots on PBS.

I have always loved the line of "Like when we throw the beans against the homosexuals to see if the beans explode" and his brief moment of sitting there on the couch processing that until he goes into "yeaaah" and asks about what kind of tests. It makes me think Ty threw that in there as a adlib. It made me an my gay friends throw beans at each other for a while haha.
