It’s interesting to watch this, so many years later, with knowledge of what was to come for many of these people.

I'm disappointed, the intro graphics led me to believe that I would be seeing Olive James.

Think this may have been his last show on the BBC (or possibly the one 12 months later) as he went back to ITV in the mid 90s

He still did his Postcards From series until 1995, then it moved to ITV for a bit

The 'young at heart' section from 7:03 is quite chilling today, featuring, as it does. Gary Glitter, Michael Jackson and Rolf Harris.

@James Mitchell Fair point. Nothing has been proved, as is the case with Ted Heath, Innocent unless proved guilty.

This is Clive James just when he became a bit low brow. I enjoyed him most when he led with his intellect and inserted wry jokes or observations. After a while he read scripted cheap jokes instead. I'm not blaming him: if you're going for quantity this is probably the only way to do it. I can't remember what it was called but he did a series of discussions with serious-ish people which was styled as if the camera was eavesdropping on their conversation. In one of those for example he discussed "parsing" as a very important skill that should still be taught at school. I remember him saying it was a losing battle, but there were some battles that needed fighting even if you knew you were going to lose. I found that inspiring. Does anyone remember what that series was called?

Why ruin this piece by altering the aspect ratio?
@hakc97again2 жыл бұрын
Because that’s how it came out as when I ripped this and I didn’t know how to change the aspect ratio to 4:3
