For this video, we are highlighting a product that we first introduced around 2020 in Smarter Reefs' self cleaning protein skimmer.
James' innovative approach of protein skimmer shattered my perception of skimmer technology and I was thoroughly impressed with all the features, it's capabilities and James' overall execution as I learned more about this product.
My wife and kids like the fact that they don't smell the fresh smell of skim mate in the morning.

Cool 😊 Is this filter roller & a skimmer ? The reusable, washable fleece is a nice option

What about smell from the filter fleece? Seems like it would get pretty nasty. Otherwise a really cool idea. Is there anyone in Canada selling these?

Actually, there are no smell unless you stick your nose right on it. I think when there is stagnant waste, it smells rancid, but when it's dry, it becomes a different story.

Ok, close to 2 weeks running, I do smell some from the filter roller. Let me see if I can find a work around that.

@@Reefscom good call. That’s why stopped using a roller mat for the time being til someone finds a solution to the “Dank” lol

I enjoy your channel but it sounds like you are just reading off the company's sales brochure. I would like to hear your take on this product after a month or two.

I just heard you say skimmers are good for gas exchange and oxygenating the water, Melevs strongly disagree but I also agree with this can you discuss this further Dies a skimmer add oxygen to the water column in a reef, it just makes sense that a skimmer adds oxygen Mark Levenson disagrees

I think we are both sort of right 😆 To Mark's point, I think what he means is that most of the gas exchange is done from the tank with surface agitation, etc. BRS says that protein skimmers are supplementation to that. But to say that millions of microbubbles formed with 'air' and water doesn't add ANY oxygen doesn't sound right to me. Not as much would depending on the application would be more accurate on my thoughts. Especially when so many people bring fresh air from outside directly to the skimmer to boost the pH of the aquarium. I'm sure all that fresh air from outside will bring oxygen as well. 😉

@@Reefscom exactly my point of view he is supposed to do a video about this just yesterday I kind of disagreed with his comment on a live but I truly believe skimmers chopping up micro bubbles with air adds oxygen to the water column thanks for the reply love your videos👍🏼
