This "door" helps build our power of attention. What we ignore gradually dissipates. What we attend to, grows. Noticing that we can focus on what is actually happening in the moment and not the brain created repetitive and fear based reaction differentiates the two. We see and feel the difference over time. One is a relaxed focus and the other is a knee jerk and unnecessary, fear based/mechanical reaction from the brain. There's a very big difference which can be noticed.

What I think he’s saying is the door is what we use to desensitize and shut out the fear about the symptoms in the pain. They are there, but the response we’re having to it or feeding into it is where we need to shut the door and lock it. Knowing that it’s mind body and gradual exposure. That gradual safety building and movement in the body and safety in the mind thickens the door.

Jim, my gratitude for you is boundless! ❤❤ I’m finding it easier to shut the door and I will practice locking it. Such a great analogy. For me, so much of recovery can be summed up in “trust and surrender “. No easy, but doable.

A great reminder and all your videos have been so helpful in strengthening the prefrontal cortex! I do have a question though..how do I discern when to keep the door shut to emotions and when to sit with them like with somatic tracking? I believe there is a time for both but discerning what practice to implement when can be challenging.

For me somatic tracking, especially Jim's video called “Letting it come and letting it go” strengthens my cortex by reducing fear of symptoms. Hope that helps ❤

@@massagepublications thank you! Yes! Completely agree…i guess my question is more discerning when to just be with them as in somatic tracking and when to just shut the door on them. It’s more the timing of when to do what practice.

Hi Jim! Not been on your channel for a while, for a good reason! Im much better now. I practiced these notions in many ways, read books, ect for many years and my condition gradually improved. I also liked the mind body prescription, and The way out. Done the ans rewire program (no agfiliation whatsoever to any of these things). Just want to say, go on, lersevere, don’t give up, yes you who thinks you are the only one this doesnt apply to;) You too can do it. Thank you Jim for putting this out there, you are awesone, love you and love all of you guys.

These videos have helped me so much! I feel like I'm on the right track, but I'm kinda confused about one aspect. Hoping for some clarification. There is the message that I should invite the symptoms in (feel it to heal it), but then there is the message to set boundaries, stand up to and close the door on them. I'm not sure when I'm doing each of those things. Invite them in during somatic tracking, but close the door the rest of the day? Or, only close the door when symptoms are really high? I hope I didn't miss this in a video. Thanks! Happy healing everyone ❤

When pain or emotions are high, it's better to close the door and do something else - at times like that you want to distract or use avoidance behaviors - but knowing you're choosing that and will get back to them later. Then, when you've calmed down a little (and sensations are down from an 8 or 9 to a 5 or 6) and are more manageable, then it's good to sit with them and see what they have to teach you or just observe them more dispassionately. My interpretation of what he said is to open the door for short periods during somatic tracking to befriend them and create safety -- then shut the door and go about your day! I hope that makes sense.
@casario2808
@casario2808 Ай бұрын
My take is he means "close the door" to BELIEVING the symptoms...to being pulled into the belief that they are harmful (which then triggers anxiety, castastrophizing, reassurance behavior, and other unhelpful reactions) and therefore perpetuating the cycle. But with somatic tracking we are willing to feel the sensations/symptoms, let them come , but with a lens of safety that we are OK. So shutting the door is helping create that sense of safety.

Thanks Jim. So "closing the door" on the sensations/symptoms is still fully compatible with "surrendering" somatically, yes? We're talking about the beliefs (and the fear/hypervigilance/reassurance) side but still fine to let it all be felt, letting it come into our body and mind, using the somatic work. Just wanna make sure I am not confused...

Or I go to a sports class and I can literally feel the energy of other peoples voices floating around my head. So do I do a Steve o and say no over and over and over, I love you. This dragging feeling is also causing low back pain that never shifts slightly. It’s there 24/7 . I just feel this is it for the rest of my life 😢

Are there any videos here in this channel about doing this work while trying to navigate through intense current relationships issues?? Without my history here( it’s a lot) My living situation( I live with ex husband who is narcissistic tendencies/with a history of gambling addiction. What the hell do I do about that?) ) and my adult son who sadly is also a Narcissist. Both are problematic. I have nowhere to go live or the income to support myself in my own. I get ALL THIS !! I do. This IS TMS/BS, and I still live my life. I have the Dizziness, rocking… bobbing etc thing. I am consistently “AFRAID”, saddened.. fearful etc from both histories of these relationships. I try try try to let it ALL go…. Get my own life back etc etc. I’m still trying. At this point it seems to me that my environment would help to make a huge difference. There’s no where for me to go. I am searching for housing on waitlist low income apts. It IS A GOAL!!! Housing availability is chronic. Thanks for any guidance
