I followed all that. I remember the first time Marianne was on the show Hullabaloo in 1965. I saw it. Watched it. The British have always taken themselves very seriously though. Think of how seriously John Lennon took himself. I loved the Beatles and the Stones but it has all become a bit tiresome now. The same old stories. They were trippin' and she was in a rug and before the constables left Keith started playing Bob Dylan's "Everybody has got to get stoned" on the phonograph and yada, yada, yada. {I"ve heard all of these tiresome stories now 1,000 times.} .....................When Eric Clapton initially came over to California from England he couldn't believe America. He said, {and I paraphrase} "I couldn't believe the difference. Everyone in England was so catty and so competitive and so dog eat dog but the American musicians were very cool and very friendly and helpful and nice. The change was amazing."

Gorgeous troublemaker, aged 16 to 18. In the past we were told Anita was the devil. Germans, Austrians, both of them. Later in another time, there was Broken English , what 1978 or 1980. I was a regular NME reader in those days. And we probably saw it before on the box. But Broken English was big even in NZ, heard a hundred times on the radio, most people brought it. It was unusually militant, completely different from her other albums, and Marianne an intenerant smack junkie was shacked up in some London squat with some minor punk star. Really. In NZ the far left music scribes, they all were, thought. This is the revenge on Jagger, she had outclass ed him on Vinyl and in Bed. She almost outclassed Miss Hyde in that, feminist anger. Wonderful. But her following albums were all Weimar.
