Very nice video. I have all the Dracula Hammer films except for the last one. I really need to get that picked up and complete the collection. So glad you are doing these Hammer closer looks!

I love Hammer horror but it’s really annoying that all the different titles are distributed by all different companies I wish they could just be in a boxset.

Was just thinking the same thing. C'mon Shout/Scream Factory, we need that Hammer Dracula box set. And, if not a box, how about individual releases like they are doing with the Halloween movies? You could even include a poster for each release. C'mon Shout....don't let us down here.

It's been a challenge collecting them all, that's for sure. But that's a big reason I do these types of videos, to de-mystify all the various releases for those who are looking to collect them. Would be great to just have definitive boxsets of them, but alas the distribution rights to the Hammer library are a mess on our shores so it's not likely to happen. Even in the U.K. they're put out by a bunch of different companies.

@@zaranyzerak Same goes to Toho where they released their Godzilla films to different distributors for international outside of Japan.

Yep, very true. I thought it was nothing short of a miracle that Criterion was able to get all 15 Showa Era films for the wonderful collection they put out.

@@zaranyzerak The same thing happened last year as well when Criterion got the rights to all the Bruce Lee films including Enter the Dragon which normally was never included with the other three four films with previous DVD or Blu Ray releases.

I'm only a little over halfway done with this video and I must applaud you! I've been wanting to collect hammer films for years now (I only own one of they're films on dvd) and this is such a helpful guide! Are the slipcases on the scream factory collectors editions limited?

Thanks so much, glad I could help! And yes, the slipcovers are limited. They're only guaranteed for the first 3-4 months after release, but sometimes you get lucky and can still grab them long after the fact.

Sean, it's been a while since I watched that extra 6 seconds of HOD on my 3-disc region 2 set, but I think the extra footage was just Dracula slowly going in for a neck bite on a female victim in bed. The cut version shows him start to lean in on her, but doesn't show his face reach her neck.

I have all of the Hammer movies, some on BD and some still on DVD. I'm waiting to upgrade the ones I have on DVD for proper BD releases with extras. I don't like to buy expensive bare bones Blu-rays if I already have the film on a good DVD release. If the price drops adequately I may pick them up, but it's annoying to spend $20+ on bare bones releases. I grew up watching most of the Hammer films on TV and/or VHS so much of their charm for me doesn't involve HD picture quality. Sharper picture quality is appreciated but not as much as commentaries, interviews, and other extra features.

Lee's hissing in Prince of Darkness is really the cherry on the cake..no mere mortal will ever forget it. I really hate the fact that Warner still hold on to the rights of a few of these..their barebone treatment is criminal on Bluray releases.

Yeah, especially given the deluxe treatment the other films have received from other labels. Warner DID do a very nice job on their Curse of Frankenstein release, though. That one is loaded with extras, alternate versions, etc. Maybe they'll revisit the other titles at some point.

All classics. I think the only one I didn't enjoy that much is the last one - The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. I haven't seen Shatter yet.

Meh, I enjoyed that one too. It's different, but gives some insight into how different cultures have different myths about the familiar legendary monsters. Plus the kung-fu stuff was fun! Shaw Brothers are one of the top studios for that genre, especially back then.
