Yes agadmator, I love watching dings games, one of the most creative and attacking players around today. Please cover all his games until he loses! Would be very interesting IMO, but please don't spoil in the title. As for this game, Ra2 waiting move, and then Nh2 and Ne2(giving up h5 pawn if black wanted it since e2 knight was blocking queen from h5 diagonal) followed by Rh3. What a creative plan! Im guessing that Efimenko didn't expect it even after Nh2, and only realised Rh3 was coming after white played Ne2.. But by then it was too late. He needed one more move to prepare suitable defence but Ding outsmarted him this game with his waiting move after which Efimenko revealed that he had no real plan and thus had no idea about whites plan and his subsequent defence either.. This allowed Ding to pursue his attack with confidence. Not only good chess technique but also great psychological skill.

Your king is in check and also your knight on G4 is undefended thats 'quite an inconvenience'.... I watch these programmes for moments like this. I love the terminology. I'm going to invent a game called Agadmator's bingo, where you have catch phrases to cross off instead of numbers. EG "hello everyone" (you get this quite often!) and "quite a nice move" and "there really is nothing to do here" and "I really like this move" and "Black/white really is in quite a lot of trouble here" etc :-)

The main factor in the transfer of rating points in a match is a relatively simple formula. However over time in general FIDE makes arbitrary adjustments to the ratings. The rating system is not absolute. There is probably no way to make it absolute.

5:40 Ra2 with ideas of Bd2 (trade really bad bishop) take back with knight, if not then rearranging bishop is too slow Be7, Qa1, Ra8, Qa2, if Be8, Ra3! and try at some pawns. Ra2 requires you to respond to a potential threat.

Rook A2 was just the best way to lift his rook in case pieces on the other end of the board got exchanged without his rook being eye by the black square bishop if he lifted it to A3. He probably felt that the pawn on B2 and the pawns on f2 and g2 weren't going to be there for long. But anyway I'm not him and not high rated at chess at all, so I don't know.

4:48 Why not capture on g3? White has then wasted tempi only to have the piece exchanged, the recapture blocks the 3rd rank for the rook transfer, the e4 knight is not doing anything and has no good retreat squares so should be exchanged. Seems the most logical reply to 20 Ng3 to me, surprised it wasn't seriously considered.

It’s hard for player like him to win candidates though. He played well there but you see that only first rank matters so you need to play very risky against top GMs. Draw and solid play get you nowhere while Ding loves to play solid computer like moves that honestly might ended up in a draw rather than objectively worse but challenging moves like Kramnik did against him in candidate.

At Ra2 for Ding, what if he instead recaptured a pawn by: Nxe4 - d5xe4 Bxe4 - Bxe4 Rxe4 Now, the d-file is indeed open for black, but black no longer has a bishop pointed at g2, white is protecting d4 twice and white's dark-colored bishop is open. At some point, white's queen can enjoy an open diagonal after Kg5 - Kxg5 Bxg5. So white's queen and dark bishop are, along with white's h-pawn, staring down black's king. I'm a terrible amateur, so maybe someone can steer me straight :D

After capturing that pawn, black would have the chance to trade off light square bishops. Ding's bishop is better since his central pawns are on dark squares and his opponent's are on light. Plus the A4 pawn was doubled, isolated and not going anywhere.
