@Soflo Sports Apollo understood that in Rocky he just happened to face his nemesis and experience the fall to his own self-pride. Creed could have handled Lang in my opinion. Rocky was just the wrong guy at the wrong time for Creed who tactically let his pride overcome his boxing smarts. Yes Rocky's Lang loss reflected bad upon Creed but being the intellegent boxing analyst he was he immediately approached Rocky to take the rematch with him as trainer. He was smart and didn't need to fight Clubber, rather prove himself as a pugilist Master by training Rocky to come back from an absolute quick mauling. Remember, Apollo up to this point only lost 1 fight by way of his pride. His venture with Rocky was all about passion but also boxing smarts. His way of redemption from his own stupidity in Rocky II.

He's just a really determined guy who was watching Balboa as the champion for years and the entire time he's just saying to himself, "I'm better than him." It takes a lot to do it, but he kicks the crap out of Rocky and he forces him to evolve his game to an incredible level. He's a really great character who opposes Rocky, so we hate him. @MasterStepz9 True. I guess one could imply that Clubber simply never recovered from that loss to Rocky in their second fight. I once witnessed Mr T in action, back in his body guard days. He was UNBELIEVABLE. He was a body guard for Leon Spinks in Chicago, just after Spinks had beaten Muhammad Ali. Spinks was then the heavyweight champ of the world and was in Chicago to fight an exhibition against a super tough Italian fighter named George Mostardini; In the old Chicago Amphitheater, it was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. A super electric atmosphere with most of Chicago's "Northside Italians" packing the house and raising absolute hell in favor of "their guy". Enter Mr. T, defending the current world champion and (most importantly) the 2 Championship belts that temporarily belonged to Spinks. The entourage had to get from the locker room into the ring, a gauntlet of about 100 feet thru sheer hostility. The crowd wanted to beat Spinks themselves, let alone fight their guy. They threw beer bottles, chairs, you name it. Mr. T got Spinks into the ring in one piece and unharmed, an incredible feat in itself. The fight had to be stopped after only a round or so because of the out and out hostility of that crowd. If Mostardini had knocked out Spinks, he still would not have been champion because it was only an exhibition, not an official prizefight. Nevertheless, when it came time to leave the ring, it seemed impossible that Mr. T and the small group of Spinks' entourage could get out of there uninjured - it was like a hundred against 10 people or so, talk about being in a "Lion's den". Mr. T, heroically and ferociously, fought one guy after another, some time more than one at a time, and invited a few more who were taunting from afar. It took about 10-15 minutes and he got Spinks and co. out of there and I don't believe a one of them got hurt! Words truly can't describe the herculean feat that this truly was. I can't prove it, but I know in my heart that: 1) This incident was used in the Rocky III film that Syvester Stalone wrote, and 2) Mr. T got that part in the film because of that incident and his authentic ferociousness, which was undeniable. There's no way you could fake what I witnessed that night in the Chicago Amphitheater, which roared like the famed Roman colosseum. Mr T is a GENUINE BADASS!!! Believe it!

And as you see here, Rocky had been working on a special technique, which os rarely known or used in boxing. It is the "Face-Block Method". This highly risky method utilizes not the hands or forearms for defensive purposes but rather, the entire facial region. In doing so, Rocky will, in all theoretical workings, absorb the blow in his face thus giving him enough time to see the foe's weak spots and attack with all vigor. Very well done. Very well indeed!

For those who think the Rocky fight scenes look fake when compared to real boxing, well of course they do! it's a movie, but look, what these movies really do is over-exaggerate the archetypes of boxing styles. Rocky is supposed to be a pressure-fighter/puncher, a brawler, those kinds of boxers tend to take 3 shots to land one, and aren't known for having great defense, so in the movies Rocky is portrayed as having ZERO defense in order to reinforce that archetype and make it understandable to the public. Just like Apollo Creed, he was an outside boxer, a dancer, so they over-exaggerated that too. In this case the archetype is between two brawlers, so of course in this series neither will have any defense whatsoever and it will appear ridiculous.
@ChrisDrummondAW9 жыл бұрын
Clubbers a slugger, Rocky is a swarmer. Clubber said "he's tailor-made for me" in the locker room, which is usually the case when sluggers fight swarmers.

@thefanwithoutaface81055 жыл бұрын
Actually Rocky was a Slugger as well. Swarmers are boxers who overwhelm their opponents with virtually no breathing room while Sluggers have poor defense but their endurance and punching power makes up for it. Rocky is a Slugger through and through, especially in the first two movies since there he just gets punched a lot but knocks Apollo down with a few punches. In this fight against Clubber however, Rocky adopted the Slugger's natural enemy, the Out-Boxer, who relies on agility and speed to dodge the power punches and tire the Slugger out.
@mr.schaffner60695 жыл бұрын
Yeah but why does Rocky block punches with his face?
@BlackAngus5555 жыл бұрын
3:55 Apollo knows it's over at the end of the first round. One thing people tend to forget, it's not just the fact that Mickey wasn't with him, and it's not just the fact that he lost his edge, Rocky had just found out that all his opponents were hand-picked by Mickey not long before this first fight with Clubber for the past 3 years. That does something to someone who had worked so hard and sacrificed so much to not only go the distance with Apollo the first time but to win the title the second time. Rocky's emotions were fluttering everywhere, let's just say if Mick were with him, u don't think that Rocky wouldn't have run in this problem anyway? He was out of his element in this fight.
@MrJsfingers2 жыл бұрын
Rocky didn’t train hard enough, he wasn’t ready. He was mentally defeated by Mickey carrying him, he saw how hungry Lang was and knew he couldn’t match that. You could see it in his eyes. Mickeys dying was the biggest factor.

T T Apollo was still a better fighter than clubber. For one, rocky was not prepared for this fight at all. When he went up against Apollo he trained like hell and did everything he could. Against clubber in this fight he barely trained while clubber trained like crazy, plus mick not being in his corner hurt him mentally as well. Also Apollo is a smarter fighter than clubber. All clubber has over him is more power, Apollo is smarter and faster, he would wear him down and then take advantage.

@@MrDarksword123 No, Apollo Would Lose, All It Would Take Is A Few Good Blows From Lang And Apollo Would Be Done. Apollo Can't Take Damage Like Rocky And Lang Can. @MrDarksword1234 жыл бұрын
WillTheRoleplayer ehhh idk man. As you saw when rocky fought clubber the second time clubber was getting tired in the third round and rocky baited him. Yes Apollo can’t take as many punches as rocky but he’s much faster and could outsmart clubber by dodging and getting hits in to wear him down. Plus I could see Apollo getting in his head too.
@willtheroleplayer60794 жыл бұрын
@@MrDarksword123 I respect your opinion sir, I just saying that apollo ego would get the better of him, because it did in rocky 2 when lost to rocky and rocky 4 when he was killed. Apollo was a great fighter, no question. At the end of rocky 3 rocky did use apollo to weaken lang, but rocky finished lang off with his usual fighting style. That the problem I have with apollo beating lang, apollo would have to learn to brawl the way rocky did to finish lang off
@MrDarksword1234 жыл бұрын
WillTheRoleplayer maybe so, but in rocky 4 Apollo was rusty. He didn’t train at all before he fought drago and was way past his prime. Against rocky in rocky 2 he had a good lead against him on points and only lost because he fought stupid in the last round, he wanted to go for the knockout rather than simply stay away and win on points. Rocky trained like hell against him too and did very little training against clubber in the first fight. Idk Apollo in his prime should win against clubber, he just seems way smarter and more experienced.
