He is doing great, and I know from experience, the difficulty to intellectualize and communicate while your brain is healing from benzo withdrawal, is absolutely terrifying and so hard. One thing that Jordan does in interview is brilliant. When he is about to make an extended point, he will say something like "..and you can tell me what you make of this..." That makes the other person sit back and listen harder, and tend to not interrupt because they want to look insightul in their reply. I need to do that more.

Look up different charm and charisma techniques if you like that sort of thing. Jordan's basically framing it as a question not a statement, making the conversation about what Bill thinks not what Jordan thinks. Keeps the person far more involved and comfortable.

It’s actually a REALLY bad habit Dr Peterson has. When he says “and you can tell what you think of this” it’s him showing self consciousness about the fact that he knows he should ask a question or stop talking. He’s self aware enough to know he’s being a bad conversationist, but he doesn’t have the humility self control to actually stop. He does the exact same thing as a host, and there are entire episodes where he just steamrolls kind, interesting, guests who his audience, like myself, would love to hear!

Jordan with Haight or Weinstein or Murray is always great. But Jordan with someone like Maher is incredible because we get to see him so very subtly try to meet the need Maher has. Jordan's ever so gently providing therapeutic insight. You can even hear it in his voice when Jordan says, 'Well, Bill, you know this,' making it easier for Maher to accept something he doesn't want to accept. Jordan is so many things, but at his very core I think he's just a loving man who is compelled to help as many people as humanly possible.

Does make me wonder how bad an influence it is, when the examples we're shown of how to behave - when it's not outright scripted - is a bunch of people who trained their whole lives to combine peddling ideology, serving their party and lying. Either in settings where they talk in an echochamber, or where they scream to make sure the other guy can't get a comprehensible message out. Never been more excited for a Club Random episode and I wasn't a bit disappointed, it even went better than I expected. Jordan Peterson even broke Bill's wall a bit. Bill went from laughing at the Sodom and Gomorrah analogy to being mind-blown. Peterson has a way of breaking down archetypes and making them so relatable to the present day.

The reason why Jordan Peterson always breaks down everything into the tidy bits of understanding, is because he goes out of his way to portray himself in such behavior. We fail to understand that the only way you or I can understand how people function as a collective and individual, is analyzing our own conducts and behaviors in life and owning such episodes, so that we don’t get stuck in them. We all have behaved in one moment or another, or for a day or two, in any of the personality traits he described…unfortunately not everybody is willing to break their own ego and humble themselves to accept it, express it, and deal with it, like he says, for so many people it’s just easier to stay that way and that’s when they become definitely one of those archetypes.

Two gentlemen, wildly different lives, lifestyles, and viewpoints, and still manage to make jokes and be friends. This is how we learn to live together in peace. By realizing that not everyone will share your views on how to live, and that's perfectly ok. It's ultimately what our country is about. Freedom to live how you want. And when we disagree we realize that the most important thing is not who's right, but how we treat each other. These two have EARNED the definition of gentlemen.

The positive use of the term "gentlemen" is lost in our current generation. A true gentleman was manly. yet well mannered and well read. Many men of my generation strove to embody those ideal. If you would like to witness, firsthand, the state of manners and civility in the U.S., Go to a Wal-Mart on a Saturday and cut ahead of someone in line. What we witnessed on this podcast is an excellent example of two gentlemen having a relaxing conversation on topics that demand an extensive knowledge base. He's completely gone." It was horrible. He got through it though, and he came out 3 or 4 months later looking like a full person again. But he couldn't stay away from it, and he's back on Xanax & methadone prescribed both. Even then he sometimes tries to use heroin, and has overdosed at least 9 or 10 times. I don't know how to help him. We started using drugs when we were like 15, and it's been his whole life. I never got on heroin, but I was addicted to oxy. No. Bill had to keep the conversation consistent with his personality and product - he's a very humorous man who has to keep the comedic content up. Peterson is an intellectual who has little need for humorous interjections. That created a tussle - a battle of wits - at a level beneath the conversation. I love watching JP handle humour. Of course he gets all the wise cracks, but it's not what he's there for. But as a well socialised guest, he has to play ball. Bill's interview with Jordan, who is, let's face it, a fairly intense and dry academic, was a masterclass in putting your guest at ease whilst remaining true to your product.
