This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Clue from 1985, directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Lesley Ann Warren, and more. I had a feeling this one was based on the board game, and I'm glad I was right! This was a super fun comedy and I appreciated all the different endings to it and learned about how, during its theatrical release, they would pick a different ending each time. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

Surprisingly it didn't do well at the theaters but has become a low key cult classic. The three ending were combined into this version but originally theaters would be randomly sent with one only. Fun concept. Tim Curry has great energy to pull off such a zany role.

Without the IP (board game) trappings, Clue is basically a repackage of a film released 10 years earlier that even had one of the same stars (Eileen Brennan). Murder by Death was a late night TV fixture in the late '70s and 20 year old me remembers it being consistently funnier than Clue despite it having a major star running around in "yellow face" for the entire film. I don't know how much (if anything) that had to do with Clue's lackluster box office but I remember thinking it might have had something to do with it.
@WukongTheMonkeyKing
@WukongTheMonkeyKing Жыл бұрын
@@snowdenwyatt6276 To expand on this a little, Peter Sellers' character, Sydney Wang, was a parody of Charlie Chan, who was commonly played by white actors in yellow face.

@@WukongTheMonkeyKing Undoubtedly. There's definitely a reason for that choice that is a meta commentary on the issue. Unlike The 7 Faces of Dr Lao (from 10 years earlier) or Remo Williams (from 10 years later). All that aside, my main reasons for really liking MbD and being only lukewarm on Clue are Peter Falk and Truman Capote.
@WukongTheMonkeyKing
@WukongTheMonkeyKing Жыл бұрын
@@snowdenwyatt6276 Totally fair, and I'm not diminishing what you said. Just adding a little context to it, for people who haven't seen MbD, who stumble across these comments in the future. Peter Falk is easily remembered for Columbo or The Princess Bride, but he was excellent in MbD, and Robin and the 7 Hoods will always hold a special place in my heart.

"Professor Plum, you were once a professor of psychiatry specializing in helping paranoid and homicidal lunatics suffering from delusions of grandeur." "Yes, but now I work for the United Nations." "So your work has not changed." #TakeBackTurtleBay Fun Fact: The three endings were shown at a random theater when it first came out. All three are included on video. The DVD, however, aside from having all three endings, also offers the option to play the movie with one randomly selected ending. Heartbreaking Loss Fact: The Max Busch House, the mansion used for the exterior and ballroom scenes, was destroyed by a massive fire on October 5, 2005. After the fire, several people left flowers on the front gate and even shed tears, evidence of how much the house was cherished by the local community. Random Order Fact: Wadsworth decides how the guests will be paired up to search the house by cutting matchsticks into various lengths, and the guests appear to draw these at random. Naturally, the partners were assigned by the script and the process could not be left to chance. Before Tim Curry holds out the cut matchsticks to the actors, he was given them in the correct order. The actors acted as if they were picking randomly, but simply drew the matchsticks in order from left to right.

One of my favorite moments in this movie is easy to miss and apparently, an accident they left in. Wadsworth is leading Mrs. White up the stairs, but she stumbles. Madeline Kahn completely faceplants on the stairs. I love it! :)

I know Murder By Death is also a classic and it's been a VERY long time since I've seen Murder By Death, but I think you get a little more out of that movie if you know the detectives that are being spoofed. But for the movie Clue, you don't need to have any prior knowledge of the board game it is based on to enjoy the film.

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. Here's hoping for a swift recovery! 👍This may be the movie I have seen the greatest number of times in my life. It's my dad's favorite movie to just throw on when he's bored, and I used to even use it sometimes for background noise when doing homework. My favorite joke in the whole movie though is one that no one ever mentions. I think maybe I just have a weird sense of humor. When they're all discussing occupations and where they live at dinner, Professor Plum says he works at UNO, the United Nations Organization (but he pronounces it as "You-know"). Then he clarifies that he works for a branch of UNO, the World Health Organization. So he works for UNO WHO. I find the subtle jokes like that way too funny. A close second is when Tim Curry mentions during his explanation that "Even a psychiatrist can tell whether a patient is alive or dead." Way to throw some shade at the psychiatric profession, Wadsworth! 🤣 But there are so many good bits in here! Plum tries the lounge door. "It's locked!" Green growls, "I know..." Plum: "Then unlock it!" Green turns to Wadsworth, "Where's the key?" Wadsworth checks his pockets, "The key's gone!" Plum smacks Green in the chest, "Never mind about the key. Unlock the door!" Green grabs Plum and shakes him, "I can't unlock the door without the key!" Green rattles the door. "Let us in! Let us in!" Mustard and Scarlet: "Let us out! Let us out!"

Hope you feel much better very soon! Great reaction! A friend of mine who was in college in '85 loved this movie so much that when he found out from a friend of his that there were multiple endings (each theater got a different single ending) he went to different theaters to try to see how many different endings he could find, even traveling to nearby cities to try to find different endings. If I remember right he saw all three endings in the theater. He preferred the "real" one, as many of us did. Apparently the original plan was to have an ending where each character was guilty, just like how it changes every time in the game, but they ran out of time and funds to do seven different endings so we just got the three. Still, it is such a fun movie and I still enjoy watching it. 🙂

Get well soon, Kaielle! It's so cool that you got to meet THE Anakin Skywalker, even at the price of an illness. This review was a fun one to watch. I actually have a "reading room" in my apartment, as I opted to rent one with a little extra space as opposed to renting a smaller one and having to get a storage unit. The extra bedroom became my "library", as I have collected many books over the course of my life. Sadly, there's no cool secret passage in or out of it, though.

I enjoyed Martin Mull's performance as Colonel Mustard in this. However, I first became familiar with him when he had a recurring role on "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" in the late 90s and early 2000s as the high school vice principal. Another actress being considered for the role of Miss Scarlet was none other then Carrie Fisher, who is best known as Princess Leia from the "Star Wars" franchise. Unfortunately she was dealing with a few issues at the time, so she had to pull out.

For my review of the movie, I recreated many of the scenes, and in a few I added additional scenes, such as explaining "Flames, flames" line, and where Mrs. Peacock got a taste of monkey's brains. I also toss in a dash of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". More people should watch "Clue", and cosplay/reenact scenes as its characters, it's fun. I'm still eagerly waiting to see the new "Who Done It: The Clue Documentary". I love watching behind the scenes stuff, and interviews.
