Clueless is one of my favorite movies and this is why. Cher is genuinely bright and altruistic, and the movie challenges you to see her clearly beyond trope-informed assumptions. Best of all, she doesn't have to change her traditionally girly presentation of herself to become a better person--the change occurs in her outlook, not her appearance.

I remember being a nineteen year old girl and pointing out that Cher is actually smart and everyone in the room laughing at me.

I think Clueless is one of the only and best movies that reflects how teenagers aren't meant to be comparable to adults in terms of intelligence or emotional togetherness and how telling teenagers (particularity girls) that they're stupid or shallow or airheads is unfair and often makes them stop trying in school. If someone is at their most together, intelligent and has all their priorities in the best order as a teenager then they're failing as an adult and need to stop blaming teenagers who are still growing and developing!

I know a portion of this video was about how Cher’s superficial outlook and obsession with beauty affected her life negatively, buuuuuuuuut her hair looks really nice

Clueless works so well as an adaptation because, like Austen's Emma, it's a critique of the era's social mores and norms. Unlike so many teen comedies where middle-aged writers ham-fistedly try to insert social commentary about the evils of Facebook or whatever, Amy Heckerling creates such a clear and unique voice through Cher that you believe her perspective. It also works because, crucially, Cher is not dumbed down. She is smart, if not intellectual, and uses her main talents - her voice and quick wits - to get what she wants.

I haven't even watched that movie, I just looked it up and it's surprisingly 90 minutes long, and you did a 20 minute video about a single character, that's impressive.

I like that with Cher and Elle Woods that both of them remain true to their feminine traits and passions WHILE going through their character arcs, that you can do both!

I just finished reading Emma, and looking back at Clueless, I can honestly say that they did an amazing job adapting the story while managing to keep its key values for a new generation.

Deep down, Cher is a kind-hearted personwho wants to do good for humanity. Plus, she's all 90s without those tacky one-line eyebrows!

Wow, while I did know that "Clueless" was an updated 90's valley girl version of Jane Austen's "Emma", I was shook to discover that debate and Aristotle played a major role in this story... As if this film couldn't surprise me anymore than it already has!😉😆

The sad part is this made me realise how much I relate to Cher ( minus, the good looks and popularity lol ) I’ve always been a little socially awkward and often have made a fool of myself without realising. I’ve been so pampered my entire life by my parents that I haven’t been able to develop minor life skills ( believe it or not, I still can’t tie a knot lol ), I also haven’t been the best at picking up social cues and I’ve often said shit that shouldn’t be said in public. Now that I’m 17 I realise that the reason I’m so painfully overbearing and dimwitted is because I never learned the importance of being receptive to important things like how people interact, how certain stuff is done and how to handle situations. I’ve been so restricted to my own bubble of thoughts and sometimes I think I know it all but when I’m exposed to situations in which I have to think quick and keep my composure I realise just how much I have left to learn. This video finally put my frustration into words haha

One thing I really LOVED about Cher is that she may come across as ditzy and clueless about many things, she IS her father's daughter. You can feel the affection between the two of them even though her father is almost always shouting at her 😂

Clueless is a movie that I’ve rewatched at least 6 times and now with this analysis I’m even more excited to watch it again

about the beauty standards bit said in this video, i recently watched this movie two days ago and noticed that in a lot of the scenes in the highschool there’s girls being seen multiple times in the background looking at their new “nose job” and i don’t think this is a coincidence, it’s shown more than 3 times and i think reflects on what you were talking about earlier about the obsession of beauty.

Telling young women that fashion isn't important, that they need fashion to be respectable, but also that they're too ditzy to function. Is. Not. Okay. I'm glad this video shows her character development and showing us her amazing personality. I like how this shows that honesty is a part of true love.

I like that she doesn’t need to rescind any of her femininity to grow as a person. She just needs to let go of controlling her world and open herself up to feedback. She starts out amazingly engaged and empowered for a young girl and doesn’t lose that. She just learns to handle the world with more nuance and maturity. I also like her confidence. She accepts criticism from people she respect but she sees most critics as just an aspect of society that can be handled gracefully.

Originally Reese Witherspoon was going to play Cher, if she did Cher would have gone off to college to later become the lawyer (legally blonde) she was destined to be.

One of my favorite movies! I always watched it as a back to school movie at the end of summer... Those were the simple days.

I love arguing using casual words, it makes you not sound boring or like a robot and it makes it look like you know exactly what you are talking about.

the arguement around the 12 minute mark that is summed up by the line "These girls were failed by the culture that surrounded them" is the main take away that i took from Legally blond but the Take on Legally blond says almost nothing about it. which is interesting

Having the gift of public speaking well is amazing! My mother has it and people always compliment her and she's able to get her ideas across just fine. My father, on the other hand, is also really smart but doesn't present very well his ideas and stuff, and it can be hard when you have to talk to a big audience at your job (I think he's gotten better, but he's still not the best at it). I consider Cher really smart for being able to share her ideas and thoughts so perfectly

Btw Emma is one of the greatest Jane Austen’s books and unfortunately it is very underrated. People tend to remember just Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility. Another book which is excellent and few people have ever read is Mansfield Park.

This is one of my favorite movies and I love this take on Cher’s character! It never occurred to me just how central arguing and rhetoric is to the movie.
