Nice rifle. I ordered an expert grade 30-06 recently from CMP. Springfield May 1942 vintage. Had I traveled to their store, I couldn't have selected a more pristine rifle. Absolutely beautiful. Take it to the range every time. Very accurate at 100 yards. So much fun to shoot.

I bought a slew of them back when they were $175. One of them had a note in the cleaning kit recess… from Audie Murphy. I bought a couple of the unissued HRAs a few years ago. Best of the best. I missed out on a Minneapolis-Moline though.

I have 4 Garand's, 3 are CMP Service Grade builds, one is very accurate with a Danish Var barrel that shoots to just over 1moa that I shoot in John C. Garand matches. The 4th is an original Mkll, Mod1 with a AMF barrel marked 308 WIN with a 1955 build date. I would like to purchase an Expert Grade form the CMP and 308 would be my choice. As for the price I was at a big gun show in February and there was a vendor there that had 2 CMP Service Grade Garands, they were marked at 2000 bucks each with the cases as supplied. The both sold the first day for the asking price.

My Danish Winchesters came with a few, small Beretta parts. Easily swapped out for USGI. 🤠

Would you recommend an expert grade Springfield receiver or Winchester receiver? I heard the SAs are usually better condition but probably manufactured post war while Winnies were all manufactured during the war and possible used in the field, so they are in worse condition. I want a WWII era/used receiver that can still function and shoot great

@johnamico588 if your wanting a rifle that has some use, you would be better off selecting a rack or field grade. Those guns have a greater chance of having USGI parts and some instances of retaining a lot of WW2 parts. If you're looking for a shooter to take to the range and are interested in a brand new stock and barrel along with refinished parts, then the expert grades would probably be the best option for you.

How does this handle modern 308 loads? Do they need to shoot lower pressure ammo like the 30-06 version?
@TheMilsurpMan4 ай бұрын
Yes, you do not need to fire modern 308 loads unless you add an adjustable gas plug.

Stick with standard 150 gr ammo should be fine. Commercial as well.

How long did yours take to ship out ive been waiting sense the end of February for it to ship
@TheMilsurpMan2 ай бұрын
I placed an order for two M1s the beginning of February. The expert grade shipped around 3 weeks later. It's been 4 months, and no word on my service grade I assume my paperwork was lost or rifles ran out.

To bad that the field grades are gone, feel like main reason why is suckbags buying multiple ones from them just to profit of them. I’m driving down this weekend to see if there’s any rack grades that are in reasonable condition, if nothing good, I’ll go with a expert grade.

All experts are the same. You can get a CMP Rack Special that has the new stock and new Criterion barrel for less. They all shoot fine. You probably want to put some grease on it.
@TheMilsurpMan3 ай бұрын
Specials racks do not come with a criterion barrel that is false. They only come with a new stock.
@George-tz1cv3 ай бұрын
I have one sitting here. Bought it at Taladega in March. There is Special Rack, and CMP Special Rack. Mine has a 12/22 dated Criterion barrel on it and is tagged as a CMP Special Rack.

@@George-tz1cv you currently can't get "rack grade specials" anyway.
