A new 1911 is a real 1911. It's a 1911, maybe not a historical item but still it's a real 1911 because it's a real gun. A new M1 carbine is a real M1 carbine because it's a real gun. It's just like the old ones but it's new. Steel casting technology has advanced a lot since WWII and a cast receiver is really no problem. Any problems they may have with shooting can be remedied by a good, experienced gun smith.

That’s…. A very good point. I’ve not thought about it that way. I have several milsurp rifles but use a modern (but retro looking) 1911.

Except it's not. You can tell there are many parts and many dimensions are off on it. You might think it's a small thing but it's not. I could instantly tell the stock is lopsided and goofy. There are other things that aren't right either. I am not being harsh here. Kahr Arms brags about all the resources it has at its disposal in producing these and they're right. They have lots of CNC machines, CAD/CAM design etc etc. With all of that at their disposal this thing should be dimensionally accurate to the T!!! Not something that I can GLANCE at and tell it has awkward variances! Especially when the rifle costs almost $1500. I am sorry but these are no better than the Universal M1 Carbines that sold in the Sears catalog back in the day for $125! Ok adjust for inflation --- let's get CRAZY and say 3x that. Ok -- $375! Not $1500

I have a few USGI Carbines , one being an M1A1 Paratrooper . I then bought an Auto Ordnance AOM150 Paratrooper . All shoot accurate and no malfunctions with 10,15 & 30 round mags . They are just light , accurate fun rifles to carry and shoot . I do prefer the mags with the good open follower’s but I have a duke mixture of GI and what ever I picked up along the way and all seem to work . Gun Mag Warehouse has a bunch and you can buy singles or they have the Korean KCI in 10 packs . Currently the 15 rnd. are $ 87.99 and the 30 rounders are 109.99 per ten pack . If you want a chest rig for your M1 Carbine check out Olongapo Outfitters as the have them for 15 round and 30 round mags as well as the. Butt stock pouch and some for your belt . If your like me , they also make them for Garand’s and AR’s and Ak’s and 7.62x51MM as well as pistols . Now if we can only petition PSA to add M1 Carbine ammo to their AAC ANMO line at a reasonable price ( like their 300 Blk) !!!!!

I bought an Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine last year and the only failures I had were failures to feed with cheap Pro Mag magazines. I then bought AO mags and with them there has been no failures to feed. The reason I bought the repo instead of an original is that I knew the condition of the new one. With an old one, you don't know how well they have been treated.

I bought mine in 2023 it's been good gun ✊nock on the wood stock 😅 I took it to the range yesterday had a couple of failures to feed but that was on the 30rd mag the 10 and 15 rd mags work fine I pretty much use Remington fmj they seem to feed reliably 90% of the time even in the 30rd mag . When I shot it for the first time I took 500 rounds of the Remington fmj and only had 2 failure to feed the hole time

Lack of 100% reliability is kind of a historically accurate feature with a M-1 carbine.

Fallen into a bit of a rabbit hole after seeing an AO M1 at a local shop I guess I've been out of the loop for a while as I didn't understand how they went from $750-850 years ago to now being over $1100 Thought/hoped they beefed up the quality, but I assume that's just not the case ...does look pretty, tho

I’ve had an AO M1 for quite a while, had an issue with not going into battery all the time, put a stronger recoil spring in it and wuzzah no issues. I bought it used, paid $650 for it ( I don’t think it was ever used when I bought it). Lots of fun to shoot it. At $1100, however, I’d buy a genuine one. I’ve added a lot of USGI parts, barrel band, sights, flip safety with no issues. Mine is an early AO model, so maybe I am just lucky?

Yeah, exactly. The price they want for it is INSANE, especially considering that many things are "off". You can GLANCE at it and tell there are many variances from the original. Ok, but to me that means it's relegated the equivalent of the Universal M1 carbines you could get back in the day in the Sears catalog for $125 in the early 80s. Let's say inflation is 5x at most -- Then these should be no more than $625! Actually LESS owing to insane increases in efficiency in manufacturing, logistics and marketing which reduce costs. These companies just want to rip people off! Like you said you can get a REAL one for that price that was used in WW2!

3 WW2 models (1 paratrooper) and an Auto Ordnance. All have been great to shoot The only M1 carbine reproduction to avoid is Universal. Great in fully jam o matic. 😅😊

It looks to be well made and well finished. What kind of accuracy do you get at 50 & or 100 yards? Ive found some of the carbines to be not all that accurate and others very accurate. My Plainfield (Nearly all GI parts but the receiver and stock) shoots very good groups at 25 yards with all shots touching but at 50 yards the peep site is not precise enough for me to stay under 1-2'' . At 100 yards with everything being perfect that day I can shoot fist sized 5 shot groups with it.
@hobofactory

As far as I can recall the best I’ve done with it was 4.5” groups at 100 yards.

I have my dads Universal M1 Carbine , I believe it is Model 100 , I can’t see the serial number since it is under the scope , I do have a flash hider for it and the “ clamp “ that holds two mags together . I would like an original , don’t know if I will get there or not . I liked the comparison between the two you have

hey hobo thanks for showing the differences.. you laid that out very well I think I might just have to stick with the original M1 carbine of course I'm a purist and I think the cost of the Auto Ordnance rifle is now about the same so why not stick with the original. Nice video and a good comparison, I bought one of these years ago as a Christmas present for my father before he passed in 2016. Seems like I paid roughly $830...at the time cost was a huge factor. I still haven't made it to the 300 round mark lol. I guess I need to get it out and shoot it more. Hopefully one day I'll get a nice USGI one. Maybe from @RUSTYSURPLUS lol. Thanks again for sharing. Oh and the mags from Keep Shooting work really well in it.

I have a few USGI carbines and I bought a new Auto Ordance paratrooper a few years ago and it works just fine . Love them all for sure it’s the ammo that’s hard to find at a reasonable price . Not sure where you are finding USGI carbines around the same price as the repro’d though . I’m seeing the USGI carbines around $2500.00 and up . I wish us .30 carbine owners could get Palmetto State Armory to produce sone ammo on their AAC Line of ammo at a decent price . If they would I think they would sell a ton of it . I know if they did I’d be shooting mine a whole lot more .

@@darrellruehter9877 tbh I’m kind of floored by the notion of a $2500 M1 carbine. The “classifieds” section of my local/regional gun forum currently has two originals, one for 1200 and another for 1300.

@@hobofactory The Cabela’s close to me had probably 10 and were all in the 2500.00 to 2600.00 + range . Luckily all of mine were in the $600.00 range but that was a few years ago with one being an auction and the other was from Midwest gun trader which is no more . I usually don’t give much “ going for prices on gun broker but if you actually see bids you know they are gonna be sold and those are pretty high these days .

Mine went back, under warranty, after less than two weeks ownership. Still probably four weeks away from getting it back. Fingers crossed - had numerous functional and cosmetic issues and a quaint 85-90% failure-to-feed issue. Many say that's normal, just put a few hundred dollars worth of ammo through it, and it will work itself out LOL.

@@cooper57m Yep, it came back and runs like a champ now. They replaced the bolt, polished the feed ramp, honed the chamber and re-blued areas of receiver and slide. Must have been produced on a Friday. Apparently A/O isn't a big profit center for Kahr. Indifference to quality can't become the hallmark of a company that expects to be around for long.
