I'm not a pipeliner either and have a Wendy's pancake hood with a flip lens. Bought it for the same reason.... all my welding is outside and needed something to get rid of glare. Reason I went with the flip lens is I knew I wouldn't be able to wear my safety glasses under it and didn't want to have to keep taking it off to grind. I absolutely love it. It only took about a day to get used to wearing it and now it's my go to hood.

I'm not a welder by trade. Just a "farm welder" for the most part. I like building things and enjoy welding, watching pipeline welders, shop welders ect to further my knowledge. I purchased a pancake hood about 2 years ago. I believe it's a sarge's. Took a little while sanding it to get it to fit just perfect but that hood is my go to for sure.

Just ordered one, I weld outside on boilers and this will be the ticket I hope.

Just bought mine not to long ago but haven’t tried it yet. I do boilers and pipe welding in nuclear power plants. I’ve got all kinds of hoods just thought I’d try this one out. People swear by it
