Sonny Gray was his usual 2018 self, only going 2 innings while surrendering 6 hits and 5 earned runs. Justin Smoak delivered the big blow, hitting a 3-run homerun in the 2nd in what would eventually chase Gray. While the Yankees had chances to come back in the game with several opportunities with runners in scoring position, they could only muster 2 runs. The Jays won by an eventual score of 6-2, and took the first game of the series.
