Hi Sam. Build it smaller, so it is more compact and rigid. And that shouldn't be exactly hexapod, there's a lot of other nice machines. LCNC: homing is tricky but possible, joints and axes mixed up completely, together with limits. You set limits for joints they act for cartesian space etc. Velocities too. Actually that is not a big deal, just need to figure it out.

That's very impressive. ja_3 will be the answer eventually, I think, but there is a lot of other stuff to sort out too. If you report specific faults with ja_3 then they might get fixed.

Thanks, Andy! I used ja_3 a long time ago, I can't remember what exactly was wrong. Another parallel machine is being built, I'll definitely try ja_3 and report the problems.

This is awesome. Can you please pleaseee share what kind of processor board you used and the software you got to interpret gcode to delta geometry? on 5 axis. This is quite impressive. Would you say you could use only 3 arm rods? instead of 6?

This is LinuxCNC linuxcnc.org It already has hexapod kinematics, and it's possible to add an arbitrary kinematics. Yes, three rods are possible too, but it will be different machine. Search for Exechon on youtube, for instance.

Of course all limits can be calculated in kinematics and work through HAL pin(s). That's more complicated, so just so just сalculate the workspace and do not leave it. I also tried joints_axes3 branch which is supposed to solve that, but it was half-baked and faulty. Alighning and calibrating is the trickies part, it involves measurements and math. For a small workspace you can align manually with a level, or you can measure the exact joints positions and struts lenghts.

I used LinuxCNC to control the machine. It supports kinematic transformations, whatever you program.

That is awesome. I want to build a hexapod some day. How hard was it to align the machine for square and perpendicular? (how does one align such a machine) Also - what issues do you run into with linuxcnc and non-trivial machines? I know you can run into joint constraint issues.

The Ultimate milling machine! I understand EMC2 takes care of the CNC but what did you use for the tool path creation? Is there something like Mastercam for hexapods? Once again, you did an amazing job!

Thanks! The machine is not much different from any other 5-axis mills, it has XYZAB axes. Actually any 5-axis capable CAM software with LinuxCNC postprocessor for XYZAB mill can do the job. I had not found such post back then, and had to write the program myself.

what firmware do you use to have gcode interpreted to delta geometry positions? Can you please share the hardware you use electronically to communicate with this machine?

I tried aluminium. Not so bad for these simple platform joints and non-preloaded ballscrews.

I would like to see video of this machine working on aluminum. Preferably with dimensional check afterwards. This is really interesting design.

I milled aluminium. Not quite HSM, but OK. The total stiffness completely depends on used components and design. Stiffness of X/Y axes is nearly equal to the stiffness of one strut.

New vids probably coming soon. But I can't promise a guide... You should learn LinuxCNC to control a parallel robot like this (at least LinuxCNC is the most affordable option).

I have been setting up a custom debian kernel specifically for LinuxCNC and running the gcode through a GRBL shield. I haven't been able to find a whole lot of instruction on how to use LinuxCNC, any advice on where I can get some good "training"? Much appreciated, I look forward to seeing your new videos.

Well you probably have to install LinuxCNC (or run from a flash drive) and start with hexapod-sim config (if you want hexapod). Also look here linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/pdf/LinuxCNC_Getting_Started.pdf

@@DIYCNC I have not used Powermill. This is a LinuxCNC machine, thus a LinuxCNC postprocessor is required. HSMWorks has it. Of course you have to consider that the machine has XYZAB coordinates instead of a more common XYZCB
