Made some more progress on the build. Finally got around to building the Y drive syncing assembly and finishing up the table. Did turn out I can't reuse the old Y motor and that must be swapped out for faster run speeds.

Outstanding video, excellent clear audio. Wonderful effort. Congratulations. I'm imspired and learned a lot. Hope you have a video on the vertical end table, as I've never seen how that is used. Thanks.

Thanks. Just have to change out the motor and it will be good to go. They sent the wrong controller for the new motor so I don't know how long it will take or even if they are going to replace it. Thanks for watching.

As long as your happy with your results then we should be seeing what you create from all the work you put in. To be honest it was like 80 % over my head in understanding but was still interesting. I think it will come together more when you actually use it for a project. I hope you and Mrs URHC had a nice Christmas A little hard without kids everywhere.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed the video - the SnapMaker is proving to be very versatile. I feel like it may be an entry-level machine to the three functions, now that I have had a chance to use them all, I want to get dedicated machines for each

Merry Christmas! I'm very impressed with your abilities and have enjoyed being subbed to your channel for some years now. I've built a 4WD RC mower a few years back but I would love to see what you could do unleashed with all your knowledge and equipment. Have you ever thought about building an autonomous mower or something similar?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. With 10 acres it takes a tractor and with 100 trees to mow around that could be dangerous to automate. Thanks for watching.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Any chance that you have a link for the long straight edge that you always use to check the tool table tops i.e. table saw, router table, etc in your videos?

I got it from Taylor Toolworks taytools.com. It's guaranteed to be straight within. 003 on the 50 inch one I bought but mine is almost perfect. Be very careful with them because its aluminum and can't take abuse. Thanks for watching.

What made you chose ball screw over rack and pinion for the longer y axis? Trying to decide myself for 4x8 table.

I just bought the matching sets. I would go with 10mm pitch if I did it again to cut the rpm in half reducing whip. Thanks for watching.

I like your journey of your new cnc. I am building a cnc with approximated size of yours. Can you tell me please what were the specs of your previous stepper motors? What are the specs of the new stepper motors? I was searching for some nema 23 closed loop 2.9Nm... for my machine. I want to be aware of the speed limitations of the axis using those nema 23... Thanks in advance.

I don't know the specs on the servos I used because they were surplus. I pumped 10 amps into them with the Gecko drives so they were fairly powerful but did not have enough inertia to slow the moving mass down. The 5mm pitch screws I used are not really good for steppers because they need 1000 rpm to hit 200 ipm and steppers lose torque quick over 300 rpm. I will warn you the closed loop stepper I got from Morphon on Amazon is junk and going back. it was sold as a nema 34 12nm holding stepper. It drops to about 2.5nm at 400 rpm. They shipped an underpowered 5 amp drive and motor that has zero documentation and no where near the rated torque so I don't recommend that brand. I am ordering a 6 amp motor and 8 amp drive to try now but probably will switch to 10 mm pitch screws to eliminate whip in the future. It is all going to depend on your screw pitch, speed you need for chip load, encoder error you can live with. if you slave the y, and gantry weight. Thanks for watching.

Thank you very much. Your answer helped a lot. I will consider moving from nema 23 to 34 and from pitch 5 mm to pitch 10 mm. I haven't bought yet, so I still can chose🙏🏼

I am also finding running at higher voltages helps the stepper drivers stay within the torque rating. I am running my y with 80 volts now to overcome the back emf with the cheap drives.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 That will be quite an adventure for me. My field it is mechanics. Electronics it is a challenge for me. Thank you for your feedback. I am seriously considering buy nema 34 instead of 23. In a kit I found the difference is 'just' around 100 euros more.

Those couplings are intended for such things as encoders, not for torque transmission.
