I finally got around to this after a year and a half of tool changes. This is very nice to have and is well worth the $. This is my version of the Power drawbar I made several changes to lighten the whole unit but the basic design is from Dan's at Hossmachine.info. I try to show all the parts needed for the PDB so you can see what's involved. Also take a look at the M6 macro video for manual tool changes.Thanks for watching please subscribe to the Channel. Visit the website at www.cnc4xr7.com X2 PDB kits are now avalible

Thanks for sharing your insight on the topic. And thanks for giving credit to hossmachine, not many people do that. Could you also add an annotation (using KZfaq annotation) in the video where you put the wrong site name of hossmachine.com. It took me a while to figure out later that it is hossmachine.info. I didn't notice it is mentioned in the description.

Hi Sam. I have just found your channel and are working through your many videos. They are all very well presented and relevant to the type of modifications the home user is likely to consider. The draw bar project is something I would like to do to my mill but up until now have been unsure of how they work but now it has clicked. Can you tell me were you obtained the pin clamps that you use on your toolmakers vice.Cheers Dave.

Do you know the BImba part number for that air cylinder by chance. The place everyone got them from is out of stock and I'm having a hell of a time finding that exact one. Hoss said he paid $3.50 for it and everywhere I've looked is $45 or more, so I want to be sure I'm getting the right one.

Regarding 4 vs. 6 belleville washers. adding the extra 2 washers doesn't really increase your holding force. The way you have them stacked (serial) adding more washers doesn't increase the force applied. if you stack them in parallel (cups inside each other) you'll get more force. Having the extra washers will increase the travel of the spring, so that may aid you in removing your tools a little easier. Either way, it seems to work! I like the way you set it up, I think it's a really clean install! kudos!
@CNC4XR7
@CNC4XR7 9 жыл бұрын
How do you suggest they be stacked?
@CNC4XR7
@CNC4XR7 9 жыл бұрын
If there's a better way I'm all ears. I only use 4 now I also found that 6 was not needed. Thank you Sam
@vegandiver
@vegandiver 9 жыл бұрын
I think the way you have them is perfect! I use Belleville washers all the time at work. I'd only change the stackup if you needed more force or a longer travel with the spring. as long as you can easily remove the tool in the down position and your tools don't come flying out of the collet when you take a heavy cut, I'd say it's great and wouldn't change anything :-).

Is it also possible to use a normal 3MT TTS colllet to make a drawbar insted of using the r8 collet?
@CNC4XR7
@CNC4XR7 5 жыл бұрын
I have not tried it I think it should be ok its just a R8 3/4" collet that you use so a 3MT 3/4" collet should work fine. the TTS tool holders seat up against the bottom of the spindle.

Very good job and explanation. At 1 point you mention boring (really drilling and tapping) the head for the side plates. Why not mount it to the plate of the belt drive. It wouldnt require any machine mods. Minor detail just an option.
@CNC4XR7
@CNC4XR7 9 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I did consider mount on to the belt drive. My plate is only 1/2 " thick and since the belt drive was made before the PDB I didn't have enough meat to feel good about mounting it to the belt drive plate. With a little planing it can be done. And is a great alternative.

I really enjoyed this video, graet job of explaining what you have to have in the way of parts. I went to Hossmachine.com and all I found was a virus. After getting rid of that problem I did some searching around and found a website called Hossmachine.info, there I found everything you talked about except for the power draw bar. I did find a pdf put out by LittleMachineShop.com on his website that described the power draw bar with pictures but no drawings were included. Do you have any other info?

@CNC4XR7
@CNC4XR7 9 жыл бұрын
Ziedin100 The air solenoid is a MAC Brand 24v #45-BA1-DDDA-1BA its a 4 way valve. Any air solenoid will work. Some air cylinders have a return spring so a 3 way valve will work My Cylinder did not so I use air to push down and up. Here is a site that explains how the valve works and they sell them in Ac and dc voltages.www.frightprops.com/faq/content/2/51/en/solenoid-valves-the-different-types-explained.html

+elcanfan The weight of the PDB has not been a issue for me and my setup but yes it does add some weight. I did instal a air spring and with the power off my Z axis remains stationary.

You are pushing all the weight of the draw bar against your bearings. You don't see a problem with that?
@CNC4XR7
@CNC4XR7 9 жыл бұрын
Yes I see, there are trade offs I am also losing a little accuracy in the spindle. But please bear in mind this is a $600 mill so the risk of the bearing wearing out prematurely is a risk I'll take for the convenience of the PDB. Thanks
@JaakkoF
@JaakkoF 6 жыл бұрын
The force needed to compress two Belleville washers (he has them in series so it is really the force of only two) is very low load on the bearings. Even a basic drilling operation will put more force against those bearings. If you however are converned about the axial loading, change the bearings to tapered roller bearings.
