Shirley Robertson.... the most articulate, intelligent and fair yachting commentator in the world. I hope Shirley is here in Auckland for the whole build up to the next Americas Cup. No disrespect to previous commentators, they have been well informed and very interesting to listen to, but there is something special in her delivery, common sense analysis and ability to impart information easily that makes Shirley the “Go to commentator” in my view. Put Shirley and Jan Shearer together in the commentary box with Peter Lester on the water.... Nirvana!

In the eyes of the NZ public, the 2013 Am. Cup was to Team NZ what the 2007 Rugby World Cup was to the All Blacks - a huge disappointment and an embarrassment. Their subsequent victories in 2017 and 2011, respectively, restored a huge amount of pride and mana in both organisations for having finally put those ghosts to rest.

After the 2013 Americas Cup New Zealand never looked at it as a defeat it was just the spark that light the fire and I knew that the true tragedy for ETNZ and the whole country would have been if to shut up shop we as a country could never let that happen and give up a proud history in sailing.

I had absolutely no doubt Team New Zealand had to get the monkey off their back. We had suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in sporting history, and the country's pride, took a nose dive. At the time I think the New Zealand public almost lost interest, everyone remembered that devastating defeat at the hands of Team Oracle and the pain felt by us all, But what a difference a year makes, and how against all odds they got off the canvas and went back to work, amazing public support started rallying, believe me no one were celebrating until they crossed the line in that final race to reclaim the America's Cup. If there is one thing we know this Cup can drive a nation to utter joy or deep depression.

@Despiser Despised Try fielding a team 0f 15 athletes and one oval ball, no pads, no helmets, no ankle stiffeners, 90 minute game, 40 minutes each half, with one half time stoppage of 10 minutes... and then celebrating a rugby world cup win where more than 2 countries show up including the US of A. AC34 was lost to a 'device' that helped automatically trim the fly-height.
@Gottenhimfella3 жыл бұрын
A conspiracy theory based on a misunderstanding. The device was the subject of a request for clarification to the measurers long before the contest, and it was ingenious but perfectly legal. The Kiwis could have chosen to implement their own. It did *not* automatically trim the fly height, and if another (undeclared) device had been fitted which did, the measurers would have smoked it (the boats were measured and inspected minutely, before each and every race) and Oracle would have been disqualified.

Hey guys great show during the cup. Loved it! Two things I think you glossed over a bit with ETNZ that really helped them win. 1) Onboard software integration to make those small foils work so well. It’s a bit like trying to make the stealth fighter fly. So I don’t think it’s as easy as simply saying wack those foils on LR and they would have won the Cup. There are a lot more nuance and moving parts involved. 2) We never even got close to seeing Te Rehutai’s true potential as all the racing was (in my view) right at the edge of their performance envelope for that set up. I know you can only critique what’s in front of you, but it’s a bit like comparing performance of F1 cars, when one doesn’t get out of 3rd gear.

Massive Kudo'sto Emirates Team New Zealand for a stunning comeback and flawless performance in once again snatching "The Cup" from The U.S.A's grasp. Remarkable to think that a "little" island nation with a population less than the city of Los Angeles, can produce such amazing talent, in lifting The America's Cup for the 3rd(?) time. However to me presonally, I mourn the fact that technology has overtaken the graceful magic of the monohulls. The modern "cats"with the plethora of carbon and foils etc., whilst undoubtedly fast, are perhaps similar to the relationship Formular 1 race cars have to everyday driving, in that perhaps too the modern America's Cup boats, have forsaken the essence of true sailing, on the Altar of Techhnology....?

well I think as a kiwi we were all very disappointed that the team didn't pull it off at San Fran especially after seemingly having it in the bag at match point with so many races in hand. However I was not aware how much the team suffered from kiwi parochialism. As a kiwi I feel a bit ashamed about that. It is true that nz public is tough on athletes sometimes. However Team New Zealand were not losers. They got an hounorable second with destination.

That loss came down to the one eyed Aussi chief marshal who decided to stop the race 2 minutes b4 team NZ was bout to cross the finish line which would have won us the cup in 2013
@kwerk20115 жыл бұрын
Nonsense. The race went over the allowed time. Rules that both teams signed up to at the beginning. Yes NZ was ahead, but that was inconsequential if they hadn't crossed the line before the time limit. The loss came down to many factors but that race absolutely was not one of them. I'm a Kiwi btw.

The amount of lynching Team NZ and Grant Dalton received from the media & public and the mistreatment from the Government from 2013 up to 2017 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy undeserved.
