Outstanding video. Thank you. The J's are most definitely the most beautiful sailing boat ever conceived. Wood, aluminum, doesn't matter, beauty in motion even in a slip.

Ideally, there is no shouting on deck. Go Go Go does not make a drill happen faster. A well run crew uses hand signals. This requires planned and practiced delegation of duties.

Not not J boat, but J class ... no clue these people...

The J class was designed under what was called the Universal Rule which created boats that were very narrow, deep with long over hanging bows and sterns as well as low freeboards. Under the same design rule there were P, Q and especially R boats. Many R boats are still sailed on Lake Ontario from both the American and Canadian side. They are generally 38 to 43 feet long with 60 to 75 feet masts. There have also been built new ones in fibreglass from molds taken from an existing boat. Sailing in fresh lake water has helped to preserve them. I sailed on R8 DIANA for a number of years out of Toronto. We spent our winters working on the boat to keep her in competitive trim. It was a real privilege in a very small physical way to sail her.

Po shlédnutí tohoto videa jsem si jistý, že vy "co řídíte svět" jste ještě větší košťata, než jsem si myslel a že jste ještě větší odpad, než jsem si myslel... Nejde vůbec o to, kolik peněz máš... Jde o to, co s nima děláš! A vy jste dno a odpad společnosti... Celá Bodeguita i Prague Boats! I ty "chudý" policajti a policejní systém, který zatěžujete svým posranim ze strachu!!! In the eyes of the NZ public, the 2013 Am. Cup was to Team NZ what the 2007 Rugby World Cup was to the All Blacks - a huge disappointment and an embarrassment. Their subsequent victories in 2017 and 2011, respectively, restored a huge amount of pride and mana in both organisations for having finally put those ghosts to rest.

Sad to see Dalton sell out his principals and shift the hosting from NZ to Spain for 2024, guess national pride doesn't factor into it when there is a cheque on the table.

Massive Kudo'sto Emirates Team New Zealand for a stunning comeback and flawless performance in once again snatching "The Cup" from The U.S.A's grasp. Remarkable to think that a "little" island nation with a population less than the city of Los Angeles, can produce such amazing talent, in lifting The America's Cup for the 3rd(?) time. However to me presonally, I mourn the fact that technology has overtaken the graceful magic of the monohulls. The modern "cats"with the plethora of carbon and foils etc., whilst undoubtedly fast, are perhaps similar to the relationship Formular 1 race cars have to everyday driving, in that perhaps too the modern America's Cup boats, have forsaken the essence of true sailing, on the Altar of Techhnology....?

To me, like many others, I suspect the "International J Class" racing yachts, are the epitome of nautical design and marine engineering. Good to see that Shirley the commentator, acknowledged the fact that it was Elisabeth Meyer who virtually single-handedly pioneered the restoration of these amazing sailing behemoths. Huge Kudos to Ms. Meyer for that. She may mourn the intrusion of modern technology and production techniques, but if I may say, is this not what the original "J Class" design was all about..? Perhaps(hopefully) that will keep the class alive and even thriving...!

Meyer followed a template established by Bob Tiedemann 10 years earlier; Tiedemann found and restored a rotting 12 Meter named Gleam and brought her back to racing glory in Newport (in about 1979), and was quickly followed by a succession of 12 Meter enthusiasts (Weatherly, American Eagle, Columbia, Nefertiti, etc...) Ms. Meyer had the gumption, and the money, to take Tiedemann's restoration template to the next level. I imagine she would admit the inspiration.

I have to say that I agree with the ultimate sentiments expressed by Shirley and by many others here. It is difficult for me to use the term "classic" when referring to the "plastic fantastics", of the modern era. They may have incredible speed, outstanding performance, yet somehow they do not pull at the heartstrings in the way a racing schooner, or gaff cutter from the early 20th century does. Some may claim that technology can supersede human skills and endeavours. That may be so, yet somehow the vessels technology creates seem to lack "soul", which for me is a key essential for a "yachting classic". As we progress through the "Age of Disposability", I see few opportunities for so called modern "classics" to survive.

I am a newbee to this whole thing. My son & daughter got involved in rowing so i had to make these 5/5:30 AM treks...COVID...bloody COVID has brought this to halt unfortunately! But i loved every bit of it. The owners of these boats are millionaire businessmen who do it for the love, as they said early on in the documentary. If i were a millionaire i sure would indulge myself. That feeling, plus learning a critical skill has got to be memorable.

Hey guys great show during the cup. Loved it! Two things I think you glossed over a bit with ETNZ that really helped them win. 1) Onboard software integration to make those small foils work so well. It’s a bit like trying to make the stealth fighter fly. So I don’t think it’s as easy as simply saying wack those foils on LR and they would have won the Cup. There are a lot more nuance and moving parts involved. 2) We never even got close to seeing Te Rehutai’s true potential as all the racing was (in my view) right at the edge of their performance envelope for that set up. I know you can only critique what’s in front of you, but it’s a bit like comparing performance of F1 cars, when one doesn’t get out of 3rd gear.

well I think as a kiwi we were all very disappointed that the team didn't pull it off at San Fran especially after seemingly having it in the bag at match point with so many races in hand. However I was not aware how much the team suffered from kiwi parochialism. As a kiwi I feel a bit ashamed about that. It is true that nz public is tough on athletes sometimes. However Team New Zealand were not losers. They got an hounorable second with destination.

The original boats that have been restored may be a bit slower than the replicas, but they are the ones that have a direct connection to the Americas Cup races of the 1930's. Otherwise, the only boat I can think of that matches, or perhaps even exceeds their majesty, would be the 2010 BMW/Oracle Trimaran cup boat. It was almost certainly the last boat of this size and stature that will ever race for the Cup.

I had absolutely no doubt Team New Zealand had to get the monkey off their back. We had suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in sporting history, and the country's pride, took a nose dive. At the time I think the New Zealand public almost lost interest, everyone remembered that devastating defeat at the hands of Team Oracle and the pain felt by us all, But what a difference a year makes, and how against all odds they got off the canvas and went back to work, amazing public support started rallying, believe me no one were celebrating until they crossed the line in that final race to reclaim the America's Cup. If there is one thing we know this Cup can drive a nation to utter joy or deep depression.
