As a black person from the Caribbean sometimes black people accuse me of not acting black enough. I don't come out and say it but I take that as a compliment. I consciously separate myself from all the negativity that's embraced as blackness. The black people who don't want to be my friend do both of us a favor because the feeling is mutual.

It’s a sad fact. We as black people really don’t like or respect each other. A lot of our race suffers from severe narcissism and fragile egos. That’s why the blacks that have an education and or a good career are constantly picked on and or killed by other blacks for no particular reason. We don’t help each other or work together unless it’s convenient for ego and public image. Otherwise, we act coldly and indifferent towards one another without a care in the world.

There’s a black guy who works as a trainer in a gym. Out of all the people that go there, he criticizes me to his clients. He won’t approach me, but I can hear him with his clients “trying” to be discrete. I never met the guy! Black on black is true! Regardless of how good you try to be as a black man, another black man will always target you for no reason!

In HS I took AP/Honors classes and got good grades, I went to a HS with a good mixture of minorities and whites, and yet often I was the only black person in my AP/Honors classes. Other black students considered me "white" or "acting white" because I spoke properly, made good grades and didn't get in trouble. In college it was a lot better because I was around other black people who experienced the same things I did. However, after college when you get into the "real world" you do meet older black people that still treat you the same way you were treated years ago back in HS...you're "white"....you're "the whitest black guy"...Fortunately for me I had parents that explained the reasoning behind the treatment and mindset of the people that made these statements..

Growing up I watched many of the black kids in my school essentially competing to see who could project an image of "being from the street" the hardest. These were kids growing up in an affluent neighborhood, in denial of their parents success. None of them had experienced the lives they were emulating. Having a comfortable life was treated as shameful, and struggling was glorified. I'll never understand tearing down another person for being successful. I'm 32 and still think about this sometimes. Kids can be so cruel to one another for the silliest reasons, and some people never grow up.

All my life in school because i went to a mostly black school and because i was diffrent they would make fun of me badly Its like my own race hates me thats why i kind of isolated myself from those groups of people i forgive them but i cant hang out with the group anymore

This is an older black man's experience in life, his own personal experience. He's talking about the Hip Hop culture. If you are around people that are big supporters of the hip hop culture then they will make fun of you for wearing dress clothes. Also if you hang out with white people and act a certain way people from The Hip Hop culture will talk to you like you're not a strong black man. As if you are a coward bowing down to the man or a Uncle Tom. I've gone through the same experience myself. I think it's even harder on young people in myself because the hip-hop scene has taken such a hold on the community that I live in. I like to wear dress shirts and feel clean and dressy when I go out and every time I walk down the street man look at this white boy walking by they call me or will do this Uncle Tom. Just because I'm standing on the side of the road getting picked up buy some of my white friends. As if because I hang out with white people and dressed differently than some others that makes me less of a black man. Why do we have to fit a certain criteria black people are always getting on about how we are profiled but whenever an African-American decides to follow a different political stance or dress a different way or hang out with other Americans that happened to be white apparently I'm doing something wrong. I'm always questioned about my motives when I ask for help or when it's given; and my successes and accomplishments are always frowned upon too. There is an issue of self hate in the black community. Black people can become extremely jealous of each other and act out horribly towards each other.

This has happened to me when I was growing up. And still persist today. I was made fun of for being light skinned with long hair from preschool to the third grade in a black school. A lot of the girls were highly jealous of that. I even slapped a girl when I was in the first grade for pulling my hair to see if it was real at that time. Then I was also put down for not "acting black enough", or being hip to black culture. I come from somewhat of a mixed background. I don't know how to twerk. Hell I was even made fun of for "acting white" because of my voice. I talk like myself. NGL it is hurtful when you get so much criticism from your own kind. I've also been to white schools where I in some way felt a whole lot more welcomed. It hurt me so much that I isolated myself from the madness and negativity from blacks. It's sad to have so much hostility from your own "people".

My elderly 81 year old lady friend, disabled in a wheel chair, a neighbor was murdered by another young black man, in the neighborhood.. He stabbed her multiple times in the chest. Scary.
