CNN's Gloria Borger looks back at the contentious 2000 presidential election, which pit then-Texas governor, Republican George W. Bush, against Democratic vice president Al Gore. As stakeholders on both sides of the race describe, the race came down to the key state of Florida and launched into 36 days of political chaos in the Sunshine State. #CNN #News

It was shown that bush would have won even if the recount would have been allowed to finish. This was done by nonpartisan independent news agencies in flordia who reached that conclusion by actually recounting the votes. Chance are that bush would have won by an even larger margin if it weren't for the major news networks who originally called flordia for gore before all the polls in flordia were even closed. When they called it for gore the polls still had an hour to go in the heavily republican panhandle portion of the state. I guarantee you when the major networks called flordia for gore people who were in line to vote in the panhandle got out of line and went home thinking that it was pointless since gore had already won the state.

It's happened 4 other times in presidential elections that we've forgotten just as well. The president who ostensibly wins the count, even if it's well within a margin of error, wins most states without a possibility of a recount. People mismark their selections, change their signatures, cast in the wrong precincts. The margin of error for counting votes is well above the margin of victory required for a recount in most states.

I was 19 and knew exactly how evil Bush was psychically I've always been able to detect evil and darkness in everything...I say this because I watched my whole life my initial thoughts about people and things turn out to be true when time goes on and things are in full bloom later... I was waiting for 9:11 I've sensed something really bad was about to happen I actually thought that they were going to have an anthrax terror attack and kill all of us at burning Man I was out at that party and having a really weird bad scary big feeling about something really big and deadly looming and a week later 911 right when I got back home I didn't know anything about the twin towers or anything about what had happened because I had been on the highway all day with out the radio on just listening to my own music we hadn't talked to anybody so I was in the car for like 8 hours and I found out about it in the evening and somebody said terrorists blew up the trade towers.... And I said it wasn't terrorist it was Bush and Cheney and the guy just looked shocked and didn't have anything to say.. the guy was someone that I had never seen before a old man a Canadian guy at the gas station.... Back then journalist and just everybody had so much more integrity and that we never would have had all this lying and conspiracy garbage and maga election denying this whole Republican assault against the concept of Truth and facts is all Trump and it's killing America it's so stupid it's making really stupid dangerous stupid stupid stupid people who have always totally despised and they've always been full of s*** Christian Conservative Republican idiots but now that they don't have to tell the truth Trump like unlocked lying and now how do we get it back in the box this is so unexpectedly ridiculously annoying and it seems funny but it's not f*** lying we need to outlaw lying and deport these magical Republicans to North Korea until they can apologize sincerely on a polygraph machine or just stay there that's a fitting place for them if they want to b**** about their government and talk s*** and let him have something to talk s*** about

Gore would have been a one term President, because the 9/11 attacks were going to happen no matter what. Republicans already blamed Bill Clinton for the 9/11 attacks, saying it was a weak, liberal soy boy Democrat President that couldn't get Osama Bin Laden is why manly macho President GWBush had to put with getting attacked. So if they pushed that stupid story, imagine if the attacks happened under President Gore? It was very confusing why America didn't reward Bill Clinton's VP with the White House considering how well the country was doing in 2000. Usually that's what happens. But if Gore had taken Office, he would have been blamed non-stop for the 9/11 attacks. Republicans blamed Bill Clinton for 9/11 so obviously they would have said it's because a weak, liberal soy boy pansy Democratic President was in the White House is why the terrorists decided to attack. This would have led to Gore being a one term President while Republicans made their case for a manly macho guy to take over.

Nah. There is a few things the left did dirty here. the liberal media announced Florida for Gore an hour before the polls closed because a good amount of Republicans get off work and vote late. The confusing ballots were done by Democrats themselves in FL probably to confuse rednecks but ironically just confused elderly liberal jewish people and most importantly the Gore team decided to contest it because the Florida Supreme Court was Liberal and they thought they could overturn it.

The biggest problem I see with US elections then (and perhaps even to this day) is that state representatives (such as Katherine Harris) are in charge of the counts and the insane degrees of partisanship at play during elections. INCREDIBLE conflicts of interest. Each state should have their own non-partisan elections associations to run clean and unbiased elections (with easy to understand ballots I will add). That's one thing we have in Canada that I'm proud of

@@LucaMatoke I think Trump may have never happened, only because his decision to run seemed to come directly from being embarrassed by Obama. But it’s hard to say if any of these people would have followed Gore since even Obama was a direct reaction to Bush fumbling America. Maybe McCain would have done a better job and we could have still had republican presidents following that. It’s definitely a butterfly effect type of situation.
@jimmycorbett4611
@jimmycorbett4611 24 күн бұрын
Al Gore and his team made several ENORMOUS mistakes. First one was him conceding so quickly. Second was them agreeing to the butterfly ballot and signing off on it. Third was only initially recounting the votes in 4 democratic counties. If they would have just made smarter decisions all around, Gore just might have won if a full recount was done and it would have shown Gore the winner. In the end Bush beat Gore by an official 537 votes. In the end either way, if all the votes were recounted, it’s my opinion, that neither party would have won’t by more than 100-200 votes, be it Bush or Gore. But as the final words of this program say, we’ll never know.

This should have been the election where federal standards on ballots and ballot counting should have been implemented. We should have one singular ballot type and one singular methodology on counting/recounting. All recounts should be statewide. 1876 and 2000 are two elections where we will never know the absolutely true results of the elections. Both parties made crucial mistakes in those elections. At least we know the results in the 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 elections.

Hadn't heard that about Barbara. Ted Kennedy had a scandal in Chappaquiddick, in March 14, 1958. Ditched his vehicle while drunk after driving it off a bridge. He fled the scene and left the female passenger Mary in the car unattented, she drowned/died. Then still became a a career politician miraculously. Pretty shocking and disturbing.

@@SincereSentinel I knew it would trigger someone. In November 1963, 17-year-old Laura Welch ran a stop sign and crashed into another car, killing its teenage driver. Such accidents don’t usually end up on the animated series “Family Guy,” but that one did - because Laura Welch went on to marry George W. Bush and become first lady of the United States.

@@Blue_Azure101 No trigger. I'm at a stage in life where I view both parties as essentially trash. Used to be way into politics admittedly, believed in the American Dream etc... That's essentially all it is though, a dream. From my perspective at least. That's fascinating regarding Laura. I still can recall her maiden name and a lot of things about her life. Have also read Bush's book 'Decision Points' he personally wrote, got it while in highschool (have a signed copy actually), and know quite a bit about them personally. But honestly I either forgot or that slipped past me somehow. I used to watch Family Guy growing up also, haven't for over a decade though, in my thirties now and don't recall that episode. That's tragic to hear though. However, given that she isn't directly a politician, I can see why the majority of people don't give it much interest, in the way they would with an actual politician. Certainly not great to have on a resume' of life-mistakes though. And in today's age with vaste amounts of social media and the like, I'm sure a much larger percentage of people would have viciously/actively used that to discredit Bush, had he run for president in current times rather than the early 2000's. Due to her being married to him.

i am entirely convinced that the Elián González matter sealed then-VP Al Gore's political fate in 'The Sunshine State,' particularly the ensuing aftermath that arose from the pre-dawn raid that occurred at the Miami, FL house of Elián's paternal great-uncle Lázaro back in April 2000. Then again, Gore was not helping matters for himself when he sought to placate the right-wing Cuban exile community. The fact that the right-wing leaders of the Cuban exile community sought to use the plight of the then-five/six year-old lad as a means to rekindle their longstanding political feud with Fidel Castro was in and of itself so morally reprehensible.

Those could have been financially viable much earlier with the right incentives and investment
