Very informative and valuable video. It will help many who are unfamiliar with this laser head. Just for info, the blue ring is a 1/2” spacer. If the owner wishes to use a 2” 20mm lens (normal lens is a 2 1/2” lens), all they need do is remove the blue ring, which will ensure proper focal distance between nozzle tip and material.

great yt channel! lots of useful information! You have my subscription. I would love to see an episode about setting up a honeycomb table so that it is level everywhere. So that the focal length doesn't vary at any place

is there a trick to square the head to the table. Ive crashed mine into the x axis a few times due to incorrect ruida parameters and knocked the laser head crooked.

Great vid thanks! Quick question. When you're reassembling the tube back up into the top locking collar part, is there a measurement setting? Or do I just push it all the way up and lock the tube, or does it even matter? The long tube tells me it's adjustable for a reason. I moved mine without measuring when I was cleaning my lens for the first time. What happens to my focal distance? Thanks in advance! (Oh, I have the black laser head, exactly like the one on your machine.)

The up and down position doesn’t matter. If you have limited Z height and a tall rotary, having the laser nozzle slid all the way up will help you gain additional clearance. The distance that matters it the distance from the tip of your laser nozzle to the top of the work piece. This is called your focal distance and is established when you do a ramp test (shown on another one of my videos). I’ve made myself some focal gauge to manually set my focal distance as I found that the stock focal gauges were a bit off.

I have the af 2028 80 watt and my mirror is in the red upper part of the tube not close to the tip should I remove the spacer? Also should I stick the red tube part on top all the way back in?

Unfortunately KZfaq comments isn’t the platform for effective help. I recommend joining our Facebook group. The link is in the description. Make a post with pictures and videos and we can help you there. If a line is too thick that generally means you’re out of focus. You need to properly set your focal length. Depending on your material, sparks can be normal as well.
