As a Maryland Terrapin, I love that Coach Davis brought the expectation with him that on Day 1 he expected this Carolina team to be as good as his teams were under Coach Smith. His passion for UNC and the "Carolina Way" is off the charts.

I doubt you are actually a UNC fan. Dean Smith is the GOAT, not K. In fact I would put several other head coaches ahead of K, including John Wooden, Adolph Rupp, and Bobby Knight.

Easy for me to say that as a UNC fan but I think it would've been true even if we lost. Duke and UNC are the only true blue bloods of the last 30 years. KU and UK waste talent and dominate inferior conferences. The center of the college basketball universe belongs right here in the triangle.

Nice interview. I was amused that Coach K picked up on the thing I struggle to understand myself. I love basketball,, and this rivalry happens in the same state where I've lived all my life, so it's a big deal. I must have been born a Tarheel fan because I can't remember not ever being one. Having played when I was in highschool I have some feel for the nuances playing out that coaching decisions are mostly responsible for. I get Coach K. He's just like my old highschool coach. His intensity during the games really shows. No doubt he's like that in practice too. Obviously Coach Davis is getting it done as a coach, but it's unfamiliar territory to me with regards to style. Evidently that contrast is something Coach K has also noticed. I'm guessing Coach K has privately wondered how Coach Davis does it. How does he inspire his guys? How does he get them to reach deep within themselves enough to be in this position? He's got a feel for it which he touched on when he was asked what he thinks about Coach Davis. I bet he's still curious about it. So am I.

He is the most positive person you could ever meet. We as unc fans were spoiled by dean and Roy so when Hubert struggled early and after loses in the press conferences he would say hyperbolic stuff like “we are good enough to win a natty and leaky is the best defender in the country” etc etc and all us fans are looking at each other like ummm coach we just lost by 30 to whoever, it happened threee times or more. It turns out everything he said was true lol. It sounded generic and out of touch when he was saying it but he kept saying it. Kept coaching and making tweaks. Rj being primary to Caleb’s two guard has taken us up a notch. Caleb finishes at the rim totally different when he doesn’t have to worry about running the show. His defense picked up as well with the tweak. Rj became more consistent as well due to touching it more. We just really took on Hubert’s personality. Imo

@@andrewcheadle1753 I'm as guilty as everyone else who underestimates Coach Davis. He might be perhaps the ultimate Tarheel. When he was a skinny kid playing at UNC he had a silky smooth jumper, and he always showed up to play beating everyone's expectations regularly. Seems like nothing has changed.

Man I loved Roy, I was to young to remember Dean though I've seen enough, but Hubert is different man, if I was an out of state prospect I'd choose to play for him not because of the Tarheel lineage but because of the man he is.

I greatly admire the impact Coach K's career has had on college basketball. He arrived at Duke and dared to compete with UNC for top honors. He climbed a giant mountain to bring Duke to successfully compete with the legendary Dean Smith . He then kept right on going to create his own special mark . He deserves an ocean of respect for what he has done with Duke's program.

its kind of sad that as time goes on the people of the newer generations forget about those of prior generations. When Coach Davis called Coach K the greatest coach of all time i thought about someone who, even me as a 62 year old who remembers his teams, had forgotten about. That would be Coach John Wooden who coached the UCLA Bruins to 10, yes 10, college basketball National Championships in a 12 year period. including a record 7 in a row. Think about that 10 National Championships in 12 years. He had 4 30 and 0 regular season teams. A 47 game winning streak and a record 88 game winning streak.

Different era and UCLA was buying players. Wooden is good but even the NCAA tournament was easier then plus west coast basketball was really a cakewalk path in the NCAA tournament. Wooden is great but just saying Wooden has 10 and K has 5 make better is not true.

Youre too young to have ever heard of John Wooden I suppose. He only won 10 National Championships in 12 years at UCLA including 7 in a row. 4 years his teams went 30 and 0 in the regular season. his teams had a 47 game win streak and a record 88 game win streak but almost no one today talks about him.

As a UNC fan. Working at Duke. There more about Coach K that not said in the sports world. He played tennis in the Children Classic for cancer. He his basketball camps are awesome. He a awesome man.
