Coach, Teen Daughter Sue After Suspension For 'Misgendering' Student

A Vermont middle school soccer coach and his teenage daughter are fighting back after purportedly being suspended and punished for "misgendering" a student who identifies as transgender. Travis Allen and his 14-year-old daughter Blake are suing after both say they received punishments for comments made after a biological male used the girls' locker room. Their complaint alleges the Orange Southwest School District and Randolph Union High School violated their First Amendment rights.
Blake told CBN's Faithwire the firestorm ignited when the transgender student, who identifies as female and plays on Blake's volleyball team, reportedly walked into the girls' locker room on Sept. 21. "I was in the locker room with a bunch of other teammates getting ready for our game, and the trans student walked in," she said, noting students asked the individual to leave. "When we went to talk to the principals, they said there's nothing they can do and that the trans student is allowed to be in there no matter if it was a biological male."
After the initial incident, Blake said she spoke with a friend in class about "how it was crazy that they would just let the trans student come in." She said the male had no business in the locker room. That conversation was purportedly reported to the co-principal's office, and Blake was told after an investigation she bullied the student based on gender identity, and was implored to write an apology letter and participate in a "restorative justice circle." She was also initially given a suspension.
"I thought that was crazy for using freedom of speech, that I could be suspended because I didn't want a male watching me change," Blake said. Phil Sechler, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom who is representing the Allens, said Blake never ended up serving her suspension, as the school dropped it the day after ADF filed a lawsuit on the family's behalf.
But Blake's father, Travis Allen, did find himself in the crosshairs of chaos. Listen to the family and Sechler share their story.

I went to my nephew’s HS graduation and I asked him what are the trends in HS. He said it's is to be either gay, bi, or trans. God forbid if you misgender someone. The kids there were upset about it. You can get suspended for it. I am so glad I went to school in the 90s.

Well actually none of that ended up happening. They just ended up getting 125k. She got that suspension removed from her school record and the father was reinstated as coach. Plus 125k. That’s a win in my book

The only info that we have is what this young lady and her father have said. Blake said the trans kid was making inappropriate comments while the girls were changing. So the trans kid was not only exposing himself Infront of the girls but was also making inappropriate comments about them too. When the girls speak up and say they aren't comfortable, they get punished? How is that fair??

Here is my suggestion to all girls in this country who are against boys in their locker room...You should have an agreement with the other girls, that if a male walks into the girl's locker room, ALL females will exit immediately, even if it means forfeiting a game. I know. That isn't fair. But it is the only way. Let him remain in the locker room alone. NO GIRLS with him inside. The reason for this tactic is to target the actual thought process inside the male's mind. The boy who sees himself as a girl, wants YOU to admit he is a girl too. So he doesn't want to use the girls locker room alone. He wouldn't be happy just with being inside that locker room for its own sake. His REAL goal, is to be inside the girl's locker room WITH REAL GIRLS so that he is receiving tacit approval from REAL girls that HE is ALSO A REAL FEMALE. If we allow this to happen, then we will never have any control on this ever again. Imagine your 11 year old daughter at the YWCA taking swimming lessons and one of the swimming instructors, a man who says he is a woman, is in her locker room shower, bathing and getting dressed. Now realize the shocking paradox that you as her father, (a male) could not enter that locker room; while at the same time you have no way to prevent her biological Male coach from being in there with your daughter! If we allow this lunacy to happen, that exact situation IS COMING!

I am a teacher and British national. I have enjoyed a long career, much of it overseas. Now though, I would not want to teach either in England or in USA...... because this 'transgender' and 'being offended' thing has become totally crazy. Those causing trouble - and having teachers suspended, in this respect - are doing no good to themselves. They can only ever receive a combination of laughter and contempt, either from near or from afar. They are disappointing citizens as well as being somewhat hopelessly mentally confused. Parents have a big responsibility to protect their children form such brainwashing or being attracted by such daft fads.

Letting middle school boy watch girls undress in a locker room is uncomfortable and should be a form of grooming. Teachers are being allowed to further confuse their students instead of providing the help that they are there to provide. I read this guy and his daughter are using a law firm that believe being LGBT should be a crime they can actually get you sent to prison. I disagree with many of these changes over the past four years regarding transgender students and transgender people in general, but it seems pretty clear to me that this guy and his daughter in law firm are just as radical but in the other direction. From what Ive seen schools and universities do, I dont want my daughter to go to uni. Its absolute insanity. When my daughter was aged 10, her school had books teaching kids everything and I mean EVERYTHING about being gay, including how to pleasure. I went to the school to complain and I was threatened with police. It escalated fast on the schools side. It was like trying to convince 10 insane people that you're not insane. I live in NZ. Being from another country I do not understand the attitude of the school boards in the USA to take decisions without parental consent. Where I come from, legally, only the parents with children in a school may be nominated by the parents and elected by the parents to the school's board. The principal is part of the school board as a representative of the education department and the school's educators nominate and elect a teacher, or 2 -3 depending on the size of the school, to represent the teachers and academic interests of the school on the board. The school board is responsible only for the general administration of the school, e.g. setting the ethos of the school, school policies in line with departmental law, additional school programs, school fees, fundraising, keeping the grounds and maintaining the buildings, cleaning and deciding on purchases of furniture and equipment and paying the ultility bills. The principal and teachers are responsible for the academic side of running the school, i.e. teaching programs and courses as decided by the education department, day to day management of the school, etc. Discipline, and any changes to the school policies, i.e. any decisions that is not academic and prescribed by the education department is made by the school board and any changes has to be presented to the whole parent body of the school for ratification. WHY are schools in the USA excluding parents and their wishes?? Maybe it is time for a revision of how your school system and school boards work. If the laws and system does not work for the majority of the people - it needs to change!!! It is not written in stone - change it!!!

So I am autistic and adhd and my entire life I have accidently 'misgendered' a lot of people. Its usually because I genuinely couldnt tell gender/sex or the wrong word just came out. If corrected I will do my best to try remember that persons gender. It should never be a crime or bad thing to accidently misgender someone. Think of how many babies and toddlers look basically exactly alike featurewise unless you see that baby naked. With transpeople, if you are told their preferred gender and that conflicts with their biological/genetic body, then you do not have to use those pronouns but you also should not call that person something they do not want to be called out of respect.

Boys should never be allowed in a girls locker room. It's traumatic. Getting undressed in front of other girls is stressful enough. Being a teen girl is a very sensitive time full of insecurities. I will never forget the time one of the PE teachers allowed a boy to go into the girls locker room so he could take a short-cut into the gym. I was undressed and it was extremely humiliating. Every time I ran in to him in class or the hallway I relived the moment he saw me exposed. I told my school counselor about it and she reprimanded that PE teacher. I'm an adult now and I still think about that incident.

It’s traumatizing, a year ago I was at Macy’s store in Austin I needed to use the restroom which the sign 🪧 said Women, as soon as I entered I got shocked to see men Urinate spaces and there was a guy / transgender there,,,, i had to scream and leave immediately, it was disgusting, and horrific experience.
