I love that you teach exactly the way that I do. pivoting on the foot, etc. I teach my students the thumb in technique for close-in hooks and thumb up for medium and far distance. thumb in requires only the anterior deltoid (front of the shoulder muscle) to exhibit force. Thumb up position gets the shoulder, chest, and tricep to exhibit force, which is why most knockouts with hooks have thumb up. However, close in, that thumb in is deadly.

Get a regular bag, gloves.. being a boxer and a fighter is two different things. Do it for exercise. The reality is if you DO NOT get in the ring to spar, all of that shadow box will not help much in a fight. Yes, you will work on technique, but without the experience it won't be of much use. Best of luck.

@@NikeSoccerTennis hey bro to correct you on one of your points. It might not make him a pro boxer in the ring. But the streets and Self Protection is different. I trained in Muay boran and CQC Self protection since i was 4 years old lived in a village. never was in a ring but i worked as a bodyguard young age and teach officers. I had people try to stab me.fight me and i can always hold my own. Yes of course sparring is great for everything. But on a a self Protection Stand point. Theres many more factors then sparring in a ring. You should train for what you preparing for if u do it for Self protection train for the street. If you are training for a Boxing train in the ring.

I was told to look at a T'ai Chi Ch'uan technique in the Mixed Styles form 48 Taijiquan:Four Corners; he didn't get me, I said drag foot. He said, "But I wouldn't say that rear foot is dragged, so much as once the weight is shifted into the front foot, the rear foot can be moved up, with the toe down, and then it can be used to pivot the waist. Sink, and spiral down. Think of a boxer throwing a hook" This was my second hook video I saw. I was attracted because your video picture showed you were associating stance and footwork as part of the punch. I connect with that. I appreciated seeing such good understanding for what you do.-Ernie Moore Jr.

I was taught at a local MMA gym (granted it's not a boxing gym, but there is a guy who retired from boxing to teach striking there) that to always step in to closer range before throwing hook. If you're able to land a long range cross, with your rear foot in the middle of stance, then you're too far away to land a hook. So he taught me after throwing 1,2, to take a step in before trying to land a hook.

I eventually decided to turn all my left hooks over (palm down) cause I would often catch my thumb on the heavy bag when "stirring the pot" in combinations at close range with the bag and that pain that lingers any time you bang anything along the edge of your thumbnail goes on for months. I'm sure some people know what I'm talking about. LOL. Peace, Bruh!

2:00 t0 2: 25 About Old Timers teaching(s)...You said it makes sense, but didn't go into how, but if you use it and know it and learned to trust it, when it counts I suppose that's all you need to know.-Ernie Moore Jr. However, I like looking at thinking and what I say might not matter, but just sharing an observation, what I put can be ignored...Palm-Down or thumb-base-at-you changes as the angle in the elbow opens bigger. so close to far changes the spar.-EMJ If you keep the fist PD or TBAY-close, you get full range of glove--more glove; more love-EMJ But the more you reach, the louder you have to preach. PD or TBAY-far, goes from all knuckle love to just the index finger connecting. Even if you turn 'n' twist your wrist, Palm-down at a distance you've begun to loose your glove~[...you miss(ed) the gist]-Ernie Moore Jr. The front of the fist can't stay straight and connect with all knuckles, Palm-Down and elbow angle opened-90. So the Old Timers Teachings thing looks like understanding shifting gears or shifting tiers--that close is third knuckles maximum glove surface contact area rotates as the fist and shoulder separates.-EMJ your fist is naked, but boxing is-ish the gloves.-EMJ Close is all 3rd and 2nd knuckles [possible]. At Far range the most you can do is all 2nd knuckles which means Palm-towards-you...The farther your fist is from your face in a (front foot?) hook; the more of your palm you better look.-Ernie Moore Jr.

I discovered that when your best punches are your Hooks, you are called a "Hooker" ....
