I loved this video. I have been a member of a lot of groups in my lifetime and I've never seen someone make a sacrifice like that so that they could discuss real issues. I do not own a Onewheel and while disappointing to hear that this company has room to grow I'm really glad to know about these issues before buying anything. Thank you for all the work that went into this.

I ride 8 1/2 miles and I'm really tired! So well done! (plus you filmed it all!). Also thanks for talking at the end, I'm new to having a Onewheel XR and I haven't been aware to "all of this stuff" going on behinds the scenes with "right to repair" (and I think we have the right to repair, especially after paying $1700 for a board. DAM IT). Thanks for continuing to spread that message!

The community can and needs to bring their 3rd-party mod creativity to the software problem. I fully agree with your outro plea, I think it's valuable and much needed, AND also we need to remember that we are no more incapable of fixing a software shortcoming than we were to extend the range when we wanted to. It's the same type of problem, no need for us to cower and freeze in the face of it. I'd bet good money it's way easier to jailbreak a OW than an iPhone. Where's our software peeps?! Let's get on it!

This video taught me a lot and mad props for carrying all that gear with you and staying steady man I would die. Only about 20 miles into my new xr but loving it everyday.

I am from NY but I was in Zephyrhills when you took this trip. I didn't even know about the onewheel then, but now I have had my XR for 10 days and I am addicted. Props for doing this kinda trip, I don't think I would. I did 27 miles yesterday and my right leg went numb...battery wasn't dead yet though so I kept going for a while. Once you have a onewheel, you always wanna be on it.

Fantastic ride and your points made at the end are still so valid today. As FM continue down the same anti consumer rights to repair path. Being a pint and XR owner in the UK the pain of struggling to get any viable repairs/upgrades done is real and so painful. I look forward to the day when their patent ends and rivals start coming out with a better approach to their customers.

Great video, and I think the interview at the end is answering your concerns. Why lock the battery and other mods because they'll go out of business. By having a one place for repairs allows FM more capital for R&D. Great way to think about it is" the Movies", which after you bought your ticket you have to pay 5 for water and they don't allow you to bring your own. If Movie theaters didn't do this they wouldn't exist. Car companies do this as well with there ECMs, were alot of electrical repairs required a software decoder only available at dealerships. If FM listened to you, they'll bleed to death or release new boards longer. I believe if anyone wants to support FM buy a pint because its cheap and will give the company exposure when people see kids, and girls ride there products. Hence the reason for there business cards with the purchase of the OW.

I bought me an XR a year ago and I had nothing but problems with the hardware. Bluetooth issues, ball bearings, and two battery cells in series that was always at a higher voltage the rest of the pack, making it die at 30% in the app. All these issues I've fixed myself. The Bluetooth problem, I found 2 solder points not soldered, so I re-soldered them and added an external antenna. The batteries were replaced with Sanyo NCR20700B 4250mAh 15A batteries which extended the XR even farther. I am not an engineer or anything special, but I am a do-er which is enough to get the job done. I probably saved money and time not doing it through Future Motion. *Cheers*

Wow that video took a serious twist in the end... How can I tell what board version I have? I bought 2 XR's early last summer of 2019. So far I have about 200 miles logged and my daughter probably double on hers.

Right to repair, take notes FM. You already have the market cornered with a great product, but don't get greedy about folks repairing their own property. Glad you mentioned Apple too, since they're basically the pioneers of planned obsolescence through software updates

Change to the trotter. It's software is improved a ton on the new models with an app coming, and they are leaving the entire board, including the software, open and user accessible. You can buy parts and do repairs yourself or use 3rd party parts with no issues. I've been speaking to them directly and they have said they hope to leave the entire thing open for the community

You actually just stopped my purchase of a Onewheel I planned on making after the weekend. I’m not a fan of how Apple controls everything in regards to repairs and it seems as if FM is no different. Really disappointing tbh, but better I learn now instead of dropping $2k.

Any new update from one wheel just now seeing theses boards around the Dallas area I want one but now I just don’t know I want to be able to change a battery if needed

Holishit i just got an XR with modding it in mind to extend the range... I’ve been looking at so many videos on how to do just that. I was so confused as to why land surf had discontinued the fender mount for the ego battery. I was going to buy an EUC because of the range and speed but when i saw a video about modding the onewheel i figured that was the way to go, fucking hell... I’m kind of glad i saw the ending of the video. Fucking hate this.
