@@ChrisMaherDIY They are great aren't they, I have them in my kitchen under the top cabinets, in day white for daytime and food prep, but at nighttime when I just wanna snack and a brew that area, about 3 foot is lit up warm white and the rest are blue, all wired to a 3 gang wall switch, one switch for overhead spots, naturally LED!, one switch for food prep and one switch for night. Lounge update, I have my 'final' (said that before!) Ikea delivery coming tomorrow, once built and put in place I start the long job of wiring the already purchased 10 metres of sk6812 WW, Another COB LED project I did not long ago was helping a friend of mine who does paint less dent removal on cars creat his own custom PDR light, using a large 12v 6000k COB plate and he says its better than the ones that cost thousands, and it cost us a tenner and a 3d printed back, the reason for the story is we (me) are desperate to see the CCT be incorporated into the large COB plates, Anyway enough geek talk! How you doing?

Great video! I have been looking at these strips for a while now. I currently just use rgb 5050 strips with wifi controllers, but I never change the colour anyway. Some of my strips have LED's that dont work correctly. Granted they are cheaper strips and that might be part of the problem. For simplicity I am thinking of switching to these with just power and a smart plug.

@@ChrisMaherDIY hey, do you remember that I told you a while back that I was planning an rgb cob led strip project? I was wondering if you know which wires are which on those strips. They have a green, white and red one together in some sort of plug and another red and white one underneath the strip. I can't figure out which ones are data and which ones are power. I think the 3 together are supposed to be data. A second thing.. I ordered some adapters you recommended but when they came in I noticed they have American plugs and I live in Europe lol. Anyway I was so stoked to see the led strips so I powered them with a 12V adapter (I know very stupid but I got impatient) and they were flickering and some of the strip didn't light at all. It was only for 30 seconds but they did get really hot...Do you reckon they still work or have they blown up already lol.

I’m curious how you might set up a strip for the following: I want to put LEDs in my garage to brighten it up while working and also have a motion sensor at night when just popping in and out. Could I somehow chain the WiFi controller with the sensor AND have the option to keep the lights on indefinitely and having the motion capability when the power is off without manually switching power supply between the two? I really hope you’re able to respond - it seems you’ve stopped replying to comments on this one. Great stuff and thanks for answering so many questions already!

Chris, you are the best at this. Thanks for the great videos and for making it so easy to follow. I am interested in using the FCOB + CCT LED Strips as cove lighting. Now, this is 38' in total and all I could find is that the maximum length is 16.4' x 2. I saw your video on the power injection. Can I not get my 38' and inject power half way through? The entire run is to be controlled by the same unit. Having it on two separate controllers will make it a headache to deal with. As a motion detection device I was thinking of using a Lutron wall mounted sensor which will also act as a wall switch. The controller would be the one you show in this video. I would be most grateful of you would let me know your thoughts in merit. Thanks, Lucho

If you know how to hide a plug inside a cabinet, I would for sure go that rout. That would look the cleanest for sure. That way you would only need to run the small voltage and ground wire out of the cabinet to the led strip and those wires can be hidden very easily! Thanks again for another fantastic video Chris. Your my “Go to guy” when it comes to LED strips. 1 question though what gauge wire do you use when connecting the barrel plugs? I’ve tried desoldering the plug off my BTF COB lights and soldering 18awg straight to the lights to connect to a wireless remote Receiver/power but the COB lights flicker on and off. Switched to barrel connector and the light stay on but the side coming from the power supply is getting really hot. Can you help or give any advice if you’ve experienced this before? Thanks in advance and for the brilliant videos 😊
@ChrisMaherDIY

Thanks so much for watching and for the support! That's interesting why they would be flickering I have not experienced that so I can only guess. I'm sure you checked all the connections and made sure the power supply matches the led strip your using. 18awg wires should not be the issue. I would maybe try a different cob strip and see if it does the same thing or maybe move the wires to the next copper pad on the cob strip and see if its still flickering. Maybe someone else reading the comments might know what's going on and can offer some advice? Let me know if you figure things out.

ID GET A WIFI outlet by Cync by Ge for where it's plugged in. Then buy the Cync Motion Sensors that are wireless and link them. This will trigger an automation via motion. To hardwire a Motion sensor on both sides would not be ideal as power flow. You'd need both to be wired in parallel to 1 side of the strip. It just isn't feasible

Power goes to the wifi controller, then to the switch and then to the lights. I would try it first that way and see how/if it works. Thanks again for the comment! I would just use a couple wago connectors that have 3 slots and the red wire from the controller would go in one wago connector and the black/gnd/neg wire would go in the other which means you are just splitting the power signal and then you can wire up both strips to those wago connectors if that makes sense! At about 4:10, you installed the dimmer BEFORE the motion detector, when in FACT, the motion detector should be installed FIRST, then install the dimmer SECOND with the dimmer output connected to the LEDs.... The motion sensor needs to have the full DC voltage to work properly and THEN the dimmer will do it's job of dimming.... A "how to" video should show the PROPER connection method and the above snafu puts the entire video's accuracy in question.... Just say'in....
