Cocaine and alcohol a 'deadly combination' - BBC News

Mixing cocaine and alcohol together creates a "deadly combination" which can increase violent and impulsive behaviour, doctors are warning.
At least 13 "self-inflicted" deaths happened in a year in England among people who took the two substances, the Victoria Derbyshire programme found.
Many, including two contestants on Love Island, took their own lives between April 2018 and March 2019.
Coroners have reported seeing a rise in such cases.
Victoria Derbyshire programme's Anna Collinson reports.

Drugs damage neurological path ways. Make people more susceptible to suicide and mental health conditions. (I include alcohol in that). Clean living people. No drugs, no alcohol. Less likely to suffer mental illness. Deal with life much better. These are the facts. Take your drug dealer sales pitch somewhere else.

@@paulgibbons2320 really? Because most suicide victims are clean loving people. Japan has the highest suicide rate and one of the lowest drug using populations. People take drugs to have a good time or to self medicate. It's all about handling your shit. Cocaine is a waste of money but it is a fact that prescribed drugs cause more suicides so this whole argument is just dumb. We over prescribe the worst shit but everyone is still focused on the failed drug war

So sorry to hear your son died. 😞🙏🏻 Cocaine made me more alert when I was drinking, picked me up & sobered me up. Gram after gram I would do, absolutely insane behaviour. Honestly, I’d lose days sniffing & drinking suicidal ideation consumed me for a long, long time as well. But my problem was never alcohol or cocaine my issue was and always will be reality. Alcohol & cocaine helped me escape reality - I felt hopeless it was definitely a form of self medication. I’m 8 years clean & sober now thanks to a 3 month inpatient psychiatric stay, drug & alcohol treatment centre - AA & 12 step program. Asking for help was difficult & finding the services to assist me was even more difficult, but if you want it bad enough, like anything really, you will achieve it. Currently quit that, quit smoking and it’s 5 years I only drink wine and beer (in decent levels, say max 4 pints of lager a night)...do my clinical checkups and I’m perfectly fine, just a tad high in colesterhol, and still do my 75Kg benchpress in the jim (I’m a muscular slim guy).

I started off as an alcoholic and eventually became a cocaine addict. Both go hand and hand, I experimented with it in college but only when my buddies had it on them. I started buying eight balls last year and blew a shit ton of money on that BS, I’m thankful I never got a bag of it cut with Fentanyl as it can greatly increase the chances of an OD. I went to treatment in January, IOP after being discharged then moved into a halfway house for a few months and have been sober since then, life is so much better and enjoyable this way. RIP Logan, drug/alcohol addiction is truly insidious...

Sad seeing my own auntie being depressed from her cocaine misuse. Even more sad that I’ve stopped feeling for her. 10 years atleast this has been going on but she chooses to just lie to my face. As if I wasn’t in her kitchen snorting lines with her when I was 16... she thinks we’re stupid, it’s a shame. She needs help but she doesn’t want to stop, her boyfriend even hates it. And he’s the one who’s selling it. Even he doesn’t depend on it. Her life’s never gonna change unfortunately. I hope he leaves her and then she will have to stop. If not she will run out of money and end up homeless. That’s better than dying from heart failure. God bless anyone of you battling addiction. Whatever the substance is, there’s still hope! It’s a self perpetuating cycle. People seek out drugs to escape from mental health issues, but they don’t realize the negative effects of taking drugs on their mental health, making the situation so much worse. I really think we need to address the mental health issues associated with substance abuse, rather than say, long term liver or heart damage or something that may only affect a certain percentage of users.

Heartbreaking. I must say, in my opinion, mental health problems are exacerbated by drug use, rather than the underlying cause, but in cases where families have to piece together their lives, and make sense of what's happened, it's simpler to blame the drugs and treat the underlying problems as secondary. I believe this is wrong, but nonetheless, who could tell one of these families that their kid was simply unwell anyway, due to an unpackable complex existential mess of emotions, and drugs were an attempt at self medication, or in the case of this poor young man, a way of anaesthetising himself before ending his life. I believe the problem is likely to be more of a societal issue, related to unseen but constant pressures. So very sad, my heart goes out to his family. I'm so sorry.

@Albert Pike Again a common misconception. There are cheap substitutes/cutting agents readily available but people know what they are doing and looking for now, drug testing kits and purity tests are available and well known about, drugs are just as strong or stronger than they were in the 70s. It's a fact, everything from cocaine to ecstasy, MDMA the main ingredient in ecstasy and Marijuana
@scotland2256
@scotland2256 4 жыл бұрын
@Albert Pike No I am telling you the real drugs are legit if you know what you are doing and are not dealing with clowns, not cutting agents. You are correct about fake benzocaine though most of that is bs
@scotland2256
@scotland2256 4 жыл бұрын
@Albert Pike Telling people not to believe in testing kits lol wtf ? Terrible advice, You can test the purity of Cocaine and MDMA in your house if you know what you are doing, accurately. Not that I reccomend people take either of them but they should know how to test if they are real and how strong they are if they choose to

The drugs and alcoholic problems aren’t new in the world but the lack of knowledge about the drugs is exactly why kids lose their lives. Teens died from doing drugs and alcohol even when I was a teen, it’s just sad that people think not talking about it will make the problem go away... when it’s the opposite, also on the rise that now a days for teens to talk about sugar booger parties behind their parents back it’s sickening.

Briella - I agree, cats are more intelligent than most people realize. I lost a cat to diabetic ketoacidosis and his brother grieved for days. If I said his deceased brothers name, he would meow. For some reason I'm a cat magnet, and have ended up with 5 cats. I live in the country where there are alot of feral cats, and they know I love cats. 3 years ago an injured mother cat brought her kitten and laid it on my porch before dying the next day. I bottle fed and raised the close eyed kitten, which was a learning experience.

Life is hard, that is no secret but that doesn’t mean you have to go through it alone. Drugs and alcohol needs to be clamped down. 21 should be the legal age, drugs and social classes should become mandatory to teach a understand what the youth choose to put in their body’s but also grasp a understanding of their own mind such as weather they are more introverted or extroverted.

This seems to be missing the point somewhat. Depressed people often self-medicate with cocaine, and adding alcohol increases the euphoric sensation. Cocaethylene (combination of cocaine and alcohol) is an extremely hazardous compound for your physical health, but there is little scientific evidence it increases the incicence of suicide.

ANYTHING IS BAD FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE TOO MUCH OF ONE THING. A bloke went blind the other day from eating too much chips. Crazy shit. An English boy who eats nothing but French fries, potato chips and the occasional piece of ham has been left blind due to the extreme vitamin deficiency in his diet, doctors in Britain said in a report published Tuesday. One of the doctors behind the article in the Annals of Internal Medicine personally treated the "fussy eater" from Bristol over the course of three years, and said he was previously healthy and took no medicines. "His diet was essentially a portion of chips (fries) from the local fish and chip shop every day," the doctor, Denize Atan, told CBS News partner network BBC News. "He also used to snack on crisps (chips) - Pringles - and sometimes slices of white bread and occasional slices of ham, and not really any fruit and vegetables."
