I thought the scene where he walked in and everyone looked petrified of him was classic body language and eye contact acting. Albeit capitalist propaganda as it demonises all KGB officers which is BS. There were good and bad officers and not all KGB officers were feared. Arnie played a good KGB officer who was after drug dealers. FACT and it was like that in all nations where you get good and bad officers.

As a kid, I really became a big Arnold fan after watching Total Recall and T2. I started to rent Arnold movies and became an Arnold junkie. Rented Predator, Terminator, Commando, Running Man, even Twins. Then I started getting to the VHS copies that didn't look that interesting like Raw Deal and Red Heat. I don't think I liked either one and recall only watching them once 30 years ago. Maybe I didn't like Red Heat because of Jim Belushi. Arnold was okay. The movie started out promising with this scene. This remains the only thing I recall about Red Heat. Arnold breaking the leg and saying "Cocainum!". It was all downhill from there.

They're FEG PA-63's. The scenes here were filmed in Hungary and used Hungarian armorers. The PA-63 is, essentially, the Hungarian take on the Makarov pistol concept. Small, lightweight, single stack 7-round magazine, limited range, limited power, intended to arm senior military officers with a basic "back-up" or emergency weapon, or weapon of last resort, to an assault rifle.

@@ljones121 I live in Moscow, and I was a young pioneer. We certainly did not have Miranda, and being a gay was a felony (rarely enforced) until 1989 or so. However, we did have a criminal process, we did have attorneys and we actually had judges. You would be surprised what violent people were able to get away with. Now if you were into politics and freedom, then they would give you the whole nine yards. Also, the police used their weapons extremely rarely, every shot guaranteed a tonne of paper writing and going to internal panels and a miserable experience. Right until 1987-1988 it was not easy to get a handgun, people used long rifles or knives. If NYC was an armed mugger’s hunting ground in 70s and 80s, Moscow and other big cities were relatively tranquil. The police were corrupt, they concealed a lot of crimes, they drank, so it was not sunshine and rainbows. We also had some places where street youth gangs were groomed and encouraged to grow, by local communist party bosses or kgb bosses, nobody knows even now. I can say one thing- no police then or now would arrest a violent crime boss in the restaurant in the manner shown. It looks absolutely comical. Which is why Red Heat is quite popular here, for its absurdly over the top imaginary Soviet brutality :))))

These cops didnt believe in body armor?
@tavariskaiser6742
@tavariskaiser6742 4 жыл бұрын
In the Soviet Union, body armor was not worn among ordinary policemen, although riot police and Spetsnaz used body armor. As a totalitarian state, the USSR had strict gun laws, although during Khrushchev's rule, gun ownership was opened to hunting shotguns, albeit with an extremely watchful eye and five year incarceration if you made an illegal purchase and ownership. Like the British and Japanese, there was a separate type of officer that was assigned to using firearms, contrast with the average US police officer (whom are allowed to operate a firearm, taser, and pepper spray at the same time). Gun violence in the Soviet Union was low, and when combined with the USSR's larger police force (plus assistance by secret intelligence services, such as, the KGB), body armor wasn't necessary unlike in most other western countries. It was only after 1991 with the foundation of the Russian Federation that cops started wearing body armor - the surge in crime after the USSR's collapse necessitated this change.
@ljones121
@ljones121 3 жыл бұрын
@@tavariskaiser6742 you are right that the militia in the USSR didn't really have a use for or were issued body armor and that the totalitarian soviet state had insane gun control laws mainly because they feared loosing power. However, up until 1985 or even later i wouldn't trust a single official statistic on their crime rate and types of crimes, as we've both pointed out gun crime was low but in general the crime rate in the USSR was at or higher than the west, granted up until the mid 60s the Soviet state wouldn't admit it had crime of any type or problems like serial killers(Andrei Chikelatelio)
