@@FekalistaGrzybowory-lz8lh During the Soviet occupation of Hungary, learning the Russian language in school was mandatory, but nobody bothered too much with it after school. And although the characters do speak Russian, they are supposed to be Georgian, not Russian. The actors should sound like they were speaking the Russian language but they come from a different region than your traditional Moscowite. So these can explain their pronunciation issues, since the average movie watcher at that time couldn't tell the difference in between different accents of the Russian language.

For the Russian pronunciation experts: Innkeeper - very good Russian slight accent Victor - Ed O'Ross - speaks Russian well however with medium/strong accent like saying ludi instead of ljudi (люди - people) Bandit 1 - Koncz Gabor Hungarian actor with heavy Hungarian accent and broken grammar. (cant pronounce ы pronounces like ü) Bandit 2 with prostetic leg - Növényi Norbert Hungarian actor, his accent is good, however he's saying only three easy words for Hungarians. Blue eye police captain - native Russian speaker Arnold - the usual German accent same like when he speaks English.

I don't know why but I always loved how arnold shot the pistols... the barrel clearly move for me too much... maybe because he is not handling the pistol correctly... but it offers to the scene a more touchable feeling into the action.

The actor, Ed O'Ross from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA, playing the ruthless and dangerous Georgian mobster Viktor Rostavili, his Russian accent is perfect and spot on, making everyone of us believe he is a Russian actor from Russia, but in reality he is an American actor. He must have studied and practiced the Russian language and accent so hard for the role that it made him look like a Georgian.

What he actually said was "I think it's not a bad idea". Line in the script probably meant "good idea" and referred to the criminal dropping his gun. But the translation into russian was clumsy, and the people who subtitled it thought he meant the handcuffs, which were not actually mentioned

Oh god. The good old films from the 80th. When I saw the film for the first time, I was 16 years old - around - I believed Ed O ´ Ross realy war a gregorian. Not Schwarzenegger or Belushi did a great job in this film, even O ´ Ross. What a great cast, what a great film. I miss the old times. Thanks for the upload.

Did you know that... The first Western film whose crew was allowed to film on Red Square in Moscow. Most of the Moscow scenes were actually shot in Hungary. The film is dedicated to the memory of the stunt director, Benny Dobbins, who died of a heart attack on the set of this film. About 200 prisoners were used as extras for the prison scene. I'm waiting for all lovers of good movies on my KZfaq channel!

Yes, this scene was very obviously filmed in Budapest, with something added in each scene to make it look a bit Russian, but I guess an American audience can't tell the architectural difference. Also, the balding lieutenant of the mob boss who is shot on the stairs was a top actor in Hungary at the time who did stunt scenes.

I took a computer science class in '97 called Internet Applications and befriended (in retrospect, stalked) a cute Russian brunette, Marina. Graduation was depressing because I knew I'd never see her again. I have since moved on, but the beautiful intro scene of this movie, with winter Moscow and the song Philosophers, always reminded me of that turbulent time when my lifetime hobbies took a back seat to the illusion of romance.
