In this Cochise guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of Tom Morello's killer guitar riffs from this Audioslave hit.
This one is going to be a lot of fun to play. We will be using standard tuning just like the original recording.
The opening of "Cochise" has sort of a helicopter effect that is the result of Tom Morello using a pencil striking the strings rapidly along with some effects. Live he recreated that sound by using a short slapback delay and striking the muted strings with his fingers. He also rocks a whammy pedal back and forth to give it that oscillating sound.
I will show you how this is accomplished live but also demonstrate a way of playing the intro without using a delay.
After the helicopter effect, the band enters and we have a lot of drone guitar noise. For this section,I will show you what Tom Morello usually plays live.
When then get to the verse riff which is a lot of fun to play and moves around quite a bit.
Up next we have a chorus riff that is pretty similar in style to the verse riff. There can be some tricky rhythms in the second half of this riff, so watch out for that part.
Tom Morello's short solo is next and shouldn't present much of a problem for anyone above an upper beginner level.
I will then show you how to play all of the remaining riffs in the order that they appear in the song.
