My succs in coir and pumice are doing so good . I much prefer coir to regular soil! They absorb the water they need with ease and no worry with rot ! Good stuff and environmentally friendly! I also add in a few handfuls of Worm Castings to feed them naturally and they love it !

I have a bag of coconut coir and hadn't used it because a lot of videos say it's not good, some say it is good. I will definitely be using some today. Thanks for the info! Love you!

Well, it's because like dirt, it also holds moisture right. So you have to put inorganic in to balance it out. can't just use 100% cococoir

I’ve been using coco coir for a couple of months and can already tell a huge difference in my succulents!! Their roots are so healthy. I found that my gritty mix and soil made all the roots so crispy and dry. I’m so glad you and I are so in sync, girl 🙏🏻🧚🏻

What size are the white pots that you have most of your plants in AND what d oyou put underneath the pots to catch the water as it drains OR do these pots have little saucers to catch the excess ?

Thank you so much for this!! I bought some coco coir and vermiculite a few months ago planning to use it for my succulents, but then heard some people saying it's not good for the succs because it traps too much moisture and causes root rot/fungus or something so I was hesitating... So good to know it's fine after all and thanks for addressing those concerns! I have my succs in Lechuza-Pon substrate right now, do you think I should mix it with coco coir and vermiculite 40-40-20? Sending good vibes from Russia xxx

As usual love your videos! How do you feel about a recipe for succulents/cacti called Al's Gritty Mix? It's basically similar to the Bonsai mix, but has turface, lava rock, etc. I already use a similar coir mix like yours but have considered how they would do in that type of "potting mix"
@joeycharmed
@joeycharmed 3 жыл бұрын
The whole point of Al's Gritty Mix is for those that like to show their plants a little bit too much love with Over Watering & maybe even over feeding. It's an attempt to get the plants to grow big really quickly (but it has a few draw backs). I used to use Al's Gritty Mix. But then I found it to be stressful because I couldn't water the plants 3-4 times a week (more during the summer). And it also meant that being away from home for a few days wasn't feasible. I ended up repotting all of my plants & adding Coco Coir to the gritty mix. And now both me & my plants are much more relaxed & happier. Al's Gritty Mix is awesome because it can be re-used over & over again. It doesn't shrink or decay and nor does harbor any diseases & retains moisture & air in the tiny gritty holes. However, it's just not feasible if you cannot stay on top of the constant manual watering schedule, if you were to use the Gritty mix on its own.

I thought I followed your recommendations but my mix seems really light. It’s not keeping my succulents firmly in place. Should I compact the medium with my hands or add a thin layer of pebbles on top to give it some weight?

Thanks for the great info. I used Miracle Grow Cactus for a long time, and everything was going great, but I thought I'd try Gritty mix to try something different. I think it was a mistake because it requires too much attention with watering and fertilizing. I have all the ingredients for gritty mix, pine bark, diatomaceous earth, crushed granite. Do you recommend adding coco coir to that and some fertilizer?

If it's hot and dry a lot then most likely not since they water would evaporate quick but try with your cheap plants first and see how it goes.
