On November 23, 2021, an intoxicated male was offering shots of alcohol to other people in Cumberland, WI. When police arrived, they discovered his license was suspended. He refused to comply with any commands and then told the officer he was going to take off if she touches her radio.

I hate that the 5-10% of the population consists of 95% of these officer’s days of thugs that police deal with over and over again day after day after day ruin it for the rest of us. Now CA and NY and other anti freedom states want to take guns away from law abiding citizens so more criminals feel emboldened. It’s a sick world, if only there were some way to heal us all…

I've had a police officer talk me off a ledge before. I still remember his name, Officer Ludlow, 5 years later. Without him I don't think I'd be here. This woman likely saved this kid's life, and I'm sure when he's in a better place, he'll remember that. (Update: I took a screenshot of this thread to show SARGENT Ludlow and sent it to the city police department a couple months ago, so he knows that strangers online are connecting over his help. I felt like he deserved to hear that people are grateful for him in a position that's often demonized these days)

Alot of "criminals" are mentally ill people to varying degrees. Some are redeemmable others aren't. The US tends to fail the people who are through lack of access to mental health programs. That and or funcyionally illiterate. An estimated865% of inmates can't read or read a t a juvenile level. Imagine being a grown man and can't read or write. They suck but she and the male officer on the scene. They let the dude have his car running all the while they were talking to his ass. I would have said immediately upon contact to turn his damn car off. Gave him over 16 minutes of talking and car still running so he takes off. He went over 70mph could of ran over someone or hit a car with a family inside and killed them off. Talking to a drunk ass psychotic criminal who broken so many laws and still gets probation. Must be nice to be white. A POC with that record and his actions would never have gotten probation period. If he was sober he would have taken off. Also don't call him out right away about his plates not matching. Let him say a bunch of lies and dig himself a bigger hole and then tell him after he screws himself over. She told him right away not real smart. Luckily he was a dumb inexperienced bozo. If this guy was a career criminal she would have been shot already. Too nice and too causal and not ready for life and death quick actions. Hands should be on holster. She is distracted by answering his questions and talking to him. Say stop the f out of the car now. I am not messing around. By messing around she got shot or the driver takes off. She doesn't even know he is on a felony bail. her computer doesn't even work. He could be a wanted arm murderer she wouldn't know and talks so casually with him .She is so lucky and so shitty. Lucky she is still alive and you think she is good? Please she was lucky far from good. Her luck is going to run out with the wrong person.

If one county says he is not suspended the other does then it is a clerical error per the DMV. This isn't self-awareness, he's fishing for pity points by telling the cop how much he ruined his life. Most 'mental health problems' are just ways of describing how much of an asshole someone is, I'm tired of people acting like some diagnosis somehow alleviates responsibility and self-control and talk about them like they're "victims". It's like addiction. Addiction isn't actually real. Anyone can quit anything cold-turkey through enough willpower. Either the mentally ill are some kind of weird zombies not in control of their actions, which means they're impossible to rehabilitate and should be locked away forever, or they're actually in control of their actions and they're just such scumbags we literally had to invent a medical term to describe it. A suicidal person isn't inside their own head screaming 'no! no! no!' while an alien force forces their body to reach for a gun. It still requires free will to do everything they do. Did you ever notice that you never see animals in the wild commit suicide?

Most people who survive suicide attempts will often admit they instantly regretted what they done and all the things that lead them to that point became obsolete. yea, sounded like she was on the verge of tears, at least until she realized he hadn't hurt himself and was still just being a dumbass. That says a lot about her compassion but I *do* have to wonder if that kind of personality should really be a cop. There are a lot of valid comments criticizing the fact that she basically let a drunk driver run, and how bad that could've been if he had hit someone. I guess she didnt have much choice though, and the same thing couldve happened to a less-compassionate male cop in the same situation.
@lostineggsaisle

@@SpydersByte You're right that could have happened to anybody. I feel like if it had been a more aggressive male cop he would have taken off sooner. You can tell that there was a lot going on with him. He was not mentally stable at this point and she was trying to help as much as she could. I feel like more cops should be this way honestly I think it would help more people instead of just automatically sending them to jail which doesn't help anybody.

@@RunstarHomer I'm not sure about that. It's always better to try to deescalate, rather than start with military mode right away. It genuinely scares people and, most of the time, makes things worse. Obviously, if there's something dangerous going on, I'm not saying to stand there and say everything's gonna be okay, but in situations that start off without violence, it's always best to try and keep it that way. Yelling and physical contact will only escalate the situation -- we've seen this countless times. The type of cops that do that are the reason that more than a third of Americans support a decrease in police funding.
