Fun fact: Cody Johnson said the inspiration behind this song was behind this song was because of a near-death experience where he was on a private jet and the pilot told him the plane was going down.

this one hits home. 3 years ago my dad had a very bad heart attack. 2 weeks later, the same day he came out of intensive care, my mom was at the hospital with him and she walked across the street to walgreens and was ran over by a car that ran a red light. she was life flighted to a trauma center. they are both alive and well now but in 2 weeks i almost lost both of my parents, literally a few minutes after talking to both of them

I had something with my grandparents similar. My grandmother had a heart attack, she was in the hospital and my mom and aunts were trying to prepare me and my sister (8 and 9) that she might not be coming home. We were very close to her and my grandpaw and so it was hard. Then in a matter of two day she was fine, and my grandfathers heart was giving out and he went Jaundice and forbid any of the grandkids from seeing him. He said he didn't want us remembering him like that and he was gone a day or two later. In the span of 4 days my grandmother went from deaths door to being fine and my grandfather went from fine to being gone and it was the strangest thing. But it reminded me of the song 'don't take the girl' the last chorus.

This is what country music is, in essence. It's an artist telling you a story, or delivering a message that you can feel. Cody Johnson has a powerful way of delivering. He redid the song "traveling soldier" from the early 2000's and it hits way different

This song definitely made me cry more than once… I had bought a 65 Chevelle to fix up and I was going to give it to my grandfather as a token of appreciation for being such a great mentor and showing me a lot of love and was my father figure- he unfortunately passed away October 2021 and I was riding down the road when I heard this song come on the radio shortly after his passing and that line “there’s a box of greasy old parts sitting in the trunk of that 65’ still waiting on you and your granddad to bring it back to life” hit me like a ton of bricks-I had to pull over I was so emotional-its songs like this that makes Cody Johnson one of the greatest country artists especially in today’s time is to be able to relate the songs to people instead of just trying to force a song out and make a buck-I regret not being able to fix up that 65 Chevelle and give it to my grandfather-the song is so true do it while you can because you’ll be glad you did or end up regretting that you didn’t like in my case…

This song always reminds me of my lost chance to see my grandfather one last time before he passed. I had school work and thought I would see him for Christmas that was only a month away. A week later we received a call from my grandmother that he was gone, passed away while sitting out in their garden. I always think back to that moment, when I chose projects that could have been pushed aside instead of visiting him one final time. I fully agree that you should always put your family ahead of anything and everything, nothing is more important.

Am from Africa and every time I hear this song it makes me truly appreciate life and also love my mother even more daily and care for her she suffered a stroke and this song reminds us to not take our loves ones for granted and our own lives.

Cody is the only artist I’ve seen live who is far better. A lot of people say they sound just like the recording when they sing live. Cody sounds 1000% better, there’s passion in his voice you have to hear live to appreciate

Dude you really really need to check out more from cojo, he’s not even close to this new pop country bullshit you find on the radio these days. I used to go see cojo back when there was no more than 50 people in the bar, now he’s playing to 70k+ people at some of his shows. He’s amazing

I just found your channel. This song hits me so damned hard every time, I lost my dad almost a year ago because of COVID. And it makes me tear up hearing it more than I let myself during his funeral. Thanks for doing this.

May 4th ... the day before the diamond was going on her hand. Till You Can't ... truer words never spoken. To this day 40 years later I still regret out mutual decision to be ready which meant being established in careers, house ... you know waiting to start living because to busy getting to the point we could ... a freak storm tore the dream apart ... Blessed to be loved like that cursed to have it over before we did.
