The fans also freaked out because the fact Cody kept his look, gimmick, entrance theme, etc. when he returned is awesome. It was seen as a major AEW star really defected and went to WWE.

No one knew for sure if he was returning, his contract expired and people started making assumptions he would go to WWE for Mania, WWE and Cody did a good job being quiet about it we did expect people like Goldberg or even Shane to show up, the Fiend and some even said the Undertaker lol.
