No coronavirus for Cody!
@bdf27184 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's not toxic to all forms of life. Invertebrates large enough to need an oxygen transport protein use haemocyanin rather than haemoglobin. Haemocyanin is based around copper, not iron. If you eat lobster, crab, octopus or squid, you'll be consuming some haemocyanin. So not that toxic to us, in small amounts.

I’m well over a year or so behind on his videos, so I’m binge watching them to “catch up”...I must not have made it to any videos discussing what happened (if he made any)-because that definitely blindsided me! The very first Cody video I ever watched, was of him making a ring for Kanyon out of raw materials he collected/mined himself! They’d been together for what, like a decade or more?! I know it’s been over a year since this video happened, so I hope everything is going better for them both (either together or separately). 😔💔

"Copper is quite toxic to most organisms" RIP to most organisms, but Cody is different. More seriously though, physiology/pharmacology grad here - I wasn't at all concerned with the mercury stuff, drinking cyanide and so on, for all the reasons Cody goes over in those videos. I've been following the chain mail videos from the start, but hadn't realized it was shedding like that, and I'd be a little concerned about the copper now. From what I remember of copper toxicity, humans can generally deal pretty well with small amounts, but chronic exposure or in cases where there's a genetic mutation making it harder to clear from the body it can accumulate to toxic levels, and besides the longer term physical symptoms there can be earlier, often overlooked psychiatric symptoms (insomnia, mood swings, and anxiety I think?). Weight loss can also be a symptom of some heavy metal toxicity as well IIRC, but not sure about copper. It's a pity that passivating it (at least in any way I can think of), would probably ruin the look or feel of it, because I love copper for those reasons too!
@hamzajas15324 жыл бұрын
Copper can cause some serious issues if ingested (vomiting blood, hypotension, jaundice). The biggest problem of chronic copper exposure is a high chance of liver and kidney failure and disease. I work as a hepatologist and I have seen the effects of chronic copper exposure in a man working at a copper sulfide smelting furnace (dont know what kind of exposure that is, ingested or inhaled)
@lomgamer4 жыл бұрын
What is your opinion on wearing a copper ring? I have one and it's constantly colouring my finger blue. Should I stop wearing it? Or try to use some kind of varnish? Thanks for you insight.
@hamzajas15324 жыл бұрын
@@lomgamer Its copper patina. Its a ring, it oxidates and gets the patina quick because your skin is full of water, salt and carbohydrates. There is no reason to worry because you have a ring.
@rkirke14 жыл бұрын
@@lomgamer I'm not a doctor, so I can't give medical advice, but the discoloration suggests that copper salts are forming (many of which are soluble, and so more toxic than the elemental metal would be). I think the varnish idea is a good one. You could probably paint some clear nail polish onto the inside of the ring where it contacts skin. I'd go with nail polish over something from a hardware or craft store because I'd presume cosmetic varnishes would have to be relatively non-toxic/biocompatible. If you're concerned about copper toxicity symptoms, best best would be to check with a doctor of course. Hope this helps!
