I'm late to the party but what Cody said about the Tech Bindings is fantastic. I've had two gnarly wipeouts on my pin bindings in-bounds because I skied them way too hard in bounds and on groomers.

I think a statement "there is no DIN setting at the toe" is outdated. Fritschi Tecton 12 bindings have DIN for lateral impact

Cody, can you please please do a video on proper settings for the shift. I am one of those that has been having issues popping out, despite getting it done by pros in CO. Thanks.

Jeez someone needs to do a video on it. I’m a ski tech myself and I’ve been around to a dozen shops getting opinions on proper set up/ toe height/fwd pressure. There’s a million different opinions but one major consistency... trial and error. Ski it a couple times and adjust it afterwards. But no clear directions.

Regarding the Tracker3 switch moving during avalanches: Just got it and it has a sliding lock to prevent switch movement. Was this feature on the failures noted in the interview or are/were you unaware of a change?

Ah! Cody is right! The slide lock works in tracking mode but does not engage in Search mode. Yes, a design flaw. It would definitely be a better design if the slide lock engaged in every position. Hopefully, BCA listens to you guys....

What about the Duke PT 16... A revolution in bindings?
@austenpearson
@austenpearson 3 жыл бұрын
What about them is a revolution? The shift was a binding revolution one uping the kingpin binding. If anything, the Duke PT went steps in the wrong direction in comparison to the shift. Yes, they might be catering to the big heavy free ride guys a little more than the shift, but the amount of people I can think of that need an extra 3 clicks of DIN are either gonna be on CAST system bindings, or riding lines that are accessed with a sled. In my opinion, the duke is just their answer to get marker team riders off the kingpin binding. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 16+ din shift binding next season as they already released their low din shift this season which already seams to be a hit amongst the lighter riders.

@@austenpearson Why would Marker want to get their team riders off of Kingpins? I've gone through a number of Kingpin toe and heel pieces over years of riding them hard, and one fairly bad pre-release skiing fast on a firm groomer, but overall I've found them to be a complete revelation in binding design. And now that I understand their limitations (in firm conditions) I've had no issues. Cliffs, high speeds, and even landing switch on park jumps has not been a problem

SHIFT science is very attractive anyone using them in-bounds? Cody never compares SHIFT safety to pin/tech bindings in general but I have always known tech bindings are more dangerous but in 8 years of 95% backcountry I have only had a hand full of odd releases and no injury. If alpine touring binding retention and release interests you watch this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsBnjJh236nNdZs.html

I mean he kind of does compare shift safety to tech bindings in general here. He actually goes pretty in depth about all of it, did you listen to the whole thing?

I get his whole thing about elasticity but the warden is tied for lowest elasticity along with the attack lineup and the marker royale family. So whats the point hes getting at. All alpine bindings have elasticity and he only positively mention two amer bindings. Is he just talking about alpine vs tech bindings.
