Great episode, people give me grief about my obsession! Chemex, fresh med-coarse grind, 3 stage pour, 14-1 ratio and 205 degree water. I love Ethiopean coffees in the Summer and more robust the rest of the year. I prefer natural processed coffee over washed, I like the funky characteristics of the coffee, less predictable. You might enjoy James Hoffman's channel, it's a coffee nerd must, learned so much. I love vinyl too of course, they both have wonderful soothing rituals. Cheers!

Growing up a poor Italian kid in western PA. My parents would perk a pot of strong coffee. I can still smell the goodness coming from my parents kitchen. Thanks for the memories. Sinatra was a nice touch.

Good morning Mazz, I’ve been into Italian espresso machines for about the same time you’ve had your rancilio. The two passions parallel themselves so much. My previous machine was a fiorenzato that was plumbed in like yours. (Do you have a filter on the incoming water line?). I moved 6 years ago and decide on not going with the plumb in so I bought a Lelit Bianca that has a reservoir. The interesting feature that it has is a paddle valve on the group head. It allows you to vary the pressure so you can adjust for an infinite “recipe”. I’ve become one of those light roast fans and the paddle really allows for maximizing the light roast advantage. Well , I’m babbling like I did with you on Rachel’s show back in January when I discussed the importance of VTA adjustment in maximizing the audio from vinyl. Parallels of passions. Best always great job. Tony

James Hoffman is the Michael Fremer of coffee. So depending on your point of view, you’ll be well informed. Great coffee movie. 1989s QUEEN OF HEARTS about an Italian family migrating to London to build a life and they bring an enormous espresso machine as their centerpiece in the cafe business that will support them. The pressure valves on the machine are a metaphor for their struggles to survive and adapt.

I love the wide range of setups with coffee nerd-dom/snobbery. I'm fully manual here (after the electric kettle, that is) with locally roasted beans, a manual burr grinder, and a French press. People love to hate Starbucks? How about Dunkin Donuts? They're the danged coffee kudzu around here (downeast Maine).

Peggy Lee's *BLACK COFFEE* original UK Mono is one of the LPs I've kept in the 7-foot tall 1970s revolving record rack. I find if I revolve the rack a minute or 2 first, the album sounds better.

We love a good coffee, but hardly ever drink more than two cups a day. Still we never regretted having bought a proper espresso machine, in our case an ECM Heidelberg. It's just a thing you don't need, but makes life a bit more joyful. I remember that we once got coffee as a gift from a friend also with music references. Just can't remember which. And also we got a white wine called The Cure. As we just have one bottle, we haven't tried it yet. Enjoy your coffee.

I percolate at home with locally bought beans in the morning. Living in Melbourne it's a coffee mecca for espresso & anything else you could possible want except Starbucks. Who needs caramel in a coffee. Have a goddamn milkshake instead 😂We're one of the few places that Starbucks doesn't have a stranglehold on the city. You'll find it in the 'burbs shopping centres but not in the inner city areas. We have a big Italian community running cafes so it's very difficult to find a bad coffee. Cheers...Ben PS There's even some decent record stores down here.

I always liked your videos where you make coffee and then go and chose some music to listen to. Would be cool to see more of those.

You just combined my two pandemic obsessions: coffee and records. James Hoffman has a great KZfaq channel. I recently unsubscribed to most of the vinyl people I subscribed to a few years ago, because it was just more and more FOMO. Kept you because you’re more of a vibe.

Hey Mazzy, do you have a dust cover that you put over your record player when not in use? But I'm also assuming you don't get a ton of dust in your house because of the air purifier? I live in Salinas and I'm only about 6 blocks away from the lettuce fields so I get a lot of dust in my house. Right now I have the Audio Technica LP120 and I always have my dust cover on it. But I'm asking because I'll probably be upgrading sometime in the future to a Rega P6 or 8.
@mazzysmusic
@mazzysmusic Ай бұрын
The P8 and 10 are the Skeletal design and come with distcovers, which I always have on when not in use. Go view them at the Rega site. But you must remove the covers when you play records. I never play records with the dust cover on, so that's not an issue. The P6 is a great table and has a cover you can leave on if you choose to.
