I think a lot of us "fudge" on our projects. Some patterns just don't make sense to some of us and we have to either give up or just use your common sense to figure a different way to finish it.

Kate, I don’t know if you’ll see this comment, made Dec 21, 2022 - but I really enjoyed your review of your favourite sweaters and the yarn you used. I learned a lot ie thinking of the durability of the yarn, and whether it’s a sweater yarn or best suited to something else, in other words - soft isn’t always the only thing to think about. You’re an amazing knitter, you’ve tried so many different styles. And I love the idea of press studs rather than buttons/button holes. I loathe those! But like cardigans. Looking forward to continuing to follow you next year.

I absolutely love Rowan Felted Tweed yarn! I wish it was a little more affordable though.... but every now and then, I think “I am worth it!” It does pay to buy quality materials for one’s craft. The knitting pleasure is greater, and the resulting garment definitely worth the expense and effort!

Thanks for showing us your collection Kate. Whilst I prefer not to use superwash wool, I have a few jumpers in it and if you maintain them right they don’t give you too much trouble. I wash mine in the machine on a cold wool cycle in a laundry bag using a wool wash. By keeping them in the bags they don’t stretch at all I have found. I do an extra spin cycle at the end to get rid of excess water (all still in the laundry bag) and then I lay flat to dry without blocking or stretching out. After all that is why superwash was created...to give you a yarn that can be machine washed. But saying that, I only wash my hand knits once a year. After each wear they get aired and every month or so, depending on wear, I steam clean them on the ironing board and then dry flat. 🙂
@HawthornCottageCraft
@HawthornCottageCraft 3 жыл бұрын
That’s what was so annoying about it stretching, knowing that superwash is meant to able to be washed! I always hand wash my sweaters which I thought would help. That’s a great tip about using the laundry bag....I’ll definitely have to remember that one. Thank you❤️
@storyandstone
@storyandstone 3 жыл бұрын
@@HawthornCottageCraft I agree it is very annoying when they do stretch, especially because you’ve spent so much time creating the piece. 😊

very nice collection, I've only made hats and mittens and cowls over the years, some day maybe I will graduate to making a vest with a rounded neck instead of the V neck... I've had to move a lot so that has taken a toll on my hobby-items storage and space etc. Hats have been functional perfect projects though I wish I would really make a warm vest!!

What a lovely podcast. So much work and I’ll be saving this for future reference. Many new lovely patterns to add to my growing list. I also love the wooly wools and Blacker is also a favorite of mine. Thank you!

Very informative - it is good to know what yarns have held up and don’t show wear. I want to get into sweater knitting, and have wondered what yarn would be best to use. Your favorite was my favorite as well, so I put chased the pattern lol. Thank you - they are all beautiful!! 😊♥️

This was lovely Kate I agree about superwash merino but I’ve had better luck with it in singles fingering weight for some reason. I’ve come to like woolly yarn this year and my absolute favourite is Studio Donegal. This year is the first year that I haven’t bought a commercial sweater (though I was gifted a lovely cashmere one at Christmas) exploring patterns and yarns that are right for me is so much fun and I can knit them to suit my taste . I’m starting to think of spring summer knits and especially linen blend yarns

Lovely video, Kate. Thank you for sharing your sweater collection with us. I've seen some Superwash yarn labels actually recommending that you tumble dry finished items to bring back their shape. I don't think I could cope with the stress! I'll stick to woolly wools too!💗 Xx
