Dimash, singing here in 2017 in French, is a phenomenon from Kazakhstan. He started singing lessons at 5 when it was found he has perfect pitch. He is university educated with degrees in classical opera, another in contemporary music, pop and jazz with a major in vocal. He also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has just (18th June 2020) completed his Masters specialising in Composition, and receiving his Masters degree with Honours, having achieved the maximum score of 100% and has now in the second year of his PhD. His range is over 6 octaves (maybe 7 now) but Dimash is dismissive and says it's not how big your range is but what you do with it. He has won many prestigious singing competitions and is a decorated national treasure in his native Kazakhstan. He sings in 12 different languages, speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is pretty good with English but is still studying it along with Mandarin which he says is a very hard language to learn but again he is doing well with it. In this performance he was 22 and in a competition for famous professional singers, (nothing like the Voice or AGT), in China he was invited as a wildcard and after this one song was catapulted to worldwide stardom and became a pop superstar in China. He is also famous in Russia mainly for his neo classical work with Igor Krutoy and many of those works are very operatic, but he has now introduced pop songs there too. His vocals range from a rich bass baritone through to an extremely high soprano and his whistle register which he rarely uses, he has hit a D8 for 5 seconds with vibrato. He was on a solo world tour and in his concerts he sings for around 3 hours with an eclectic mix of styles. 6ft 3 or 191cm Dimash, is from a very musical family both parents and his sister sing, mother is a soprano. Dimash was offered a place with the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but turned it down to follow his own path and he has been very successful thus far, but I suspect world domination will soon come his way. He is a multi instrumentalist too and is very competent with 8 instruments but can play just about anything. He has just turned 27 now, and is mostly known as a live performer, he has released a triple platinum album ( platinum in 37 seconds, triple platinum in under an hour) and a new album will be released soon. He has his own record label and production company. It has been recognised that his high notes are not whistle, but head voice, Dimash rarely uses his whistle register but when he does its spectacular like everything else about him. He has billions of fans worldwide and I am definitely one of them, and he calls us his Dears, as we are all as dear to him as his family, and he means it, he knows who helped to make him famous. He is a softly spoken, polite, elegant and very humble respectful young man. He deserves every bit of the success he is having, he has worked very hard for the past 20 plus years and now his dreams as a young 5 year old are coming true. There is an interview he did for BBC World Service in 2018 where the interviewer showed a drawing he did when he was 5 of him singing on a big stage with microphones, speakers and his beloved music cassettes showing his desire to be where he is now. His recent sellout world tour has been postponed due to the covid-19 epidemic but will restart when its safe to do so. He has concerts lined up in Dusseldorf, Prague in April 2021 tickets on sale now. There will be others around the world including South America. Dimash was 22 at this performance from the I am Singer competition and is 27 now. This was his breathrough song and he instantly became famous in China after this performance. He has been professionally trained since the age of 5 and his hard work shows. Dimash is considered by many to be the greatest vocalist of all time and I am of that opinion as well. You mentioned Dimash’s little smirk at the end and that he was thinking, “I killed it”. There is no doubt there was some of that in there. I don’t know if he knew what they expected from him when they brought him in as a wild card, the youngest ever at 22 yrs old. They expected to send him home after about two weeks the players were all professional singers with fans of their own the audience of 500 members were the judges. I’m sure they all had their own music and backup planned for the competition. With dimash music of over 20 yrs and experience of the same he prepared and either wrote the music and vocals or did it by ear. He had two masters in music. He had his way that he wanted to do sos. The producer didn’t like it and told dimash if he did his way he would lose his audience. The producer didn’t like those pauses and breaks inthe song if you think about it, that’s not the way to write a composition with a lead vocal, instrumentation’s and backup. But dimash stuck to his guns and walked out of the conversation. The next morning there two big guys waiting outside his door. He got scared. They were body guards. Dimash song winning entry in a Chinese singing competition in China 2017 I still browse the music videos of Dimash from time to time to see what still store in there. I’m just wondering how much effort and strength Dimash had invested into it, to reach such a powerful voice and the many other talents that he had. Indeed it is really a great work. How he was able to develop such a heights of his talents is really admirable and worth learning and imitating. And it is much more beautiful because he sang it by heart, naturally and at his heart’s content with joyful disposition. The discipline, dedication and high ideals in pursuing his career the best he can is worth imitating not only in our individual professional fields but also in living out our day to day life. His hard work for years is indeed bearing good fruits in abundance. And so my heartfelt congratulations to Dimash and his family and all others who supported him all the way through as a musician. For me as a public listener it counts a lot the personal disposition of the artist and the good content and message of its music. The fact that, he is able to sing his music at maximum or more than 6 octaves with ease and comfort in different languages and in various voices is really amazing. But some others also cannot handle and cannot even believe the power, the strength and the heights of his voice…and they said Ooh… is Dimash human..? Alien..? Etc, I think It’s just a natural reaction that people wonder and be surprise by it or cannot even believed it at all, it’s because it is beyond human expectation. I believed that Dimash 21 year’s cultivation of his voice and talents is no tricks and no magic at all; though he is gifted by God with grace for music but his years of hard work of practice and experiences proved it to us and to the world … that indeed it is possible. My other concern whenever I listen to music is that, I usually ask: WHAT MESSAGE THIS MUSIC BRINGS ..? TO THE WORLD..? TO PEOPLE..? Although Dimash music are very good, full of content and meaning but I like most this music, because for me it speaks a message of truth, values and realities of human life. I feel that, it is not just enough to give my thumbs up to like this music, but I’m deeply moved to share something more about the richness and deeper meaning of it. With due respect to the composers, writers and singers of these music for whatever their purpose and intention would be, will always take precedence. The thoughts that I will be sharing below is only the fruits of my personal reflections based on the things that I highly valued and on how I perceived it myself and the message of this song that reaches out to me. I like this music because it reminds me the Truth, Realities and Precariousness of Human Life particularly Suffering and Death) SONG FACTS: The song is from French Rock Opera called Starmania. Originally it was sung by Daniel Balavoine who had a sudden death in a helicopter accident in 1986, who is known of his beautiful voice. Later, it was covered by Gregory Lemarchal, a young French singer who inspired Dimash to sing “SOS d'un terrien en detresse” who at all odds won the 4th series Reality TV Program Star Academy, despite his failing health and became an overnight success in France but had a shorter career, for he died young with his unusual illness of Cystic Fibrosis in 2007 at the age of 23. Recently it was unbelievably covered by Dimash and from time to time Dimash sung it in memory of his great friend Denis Ten an Olympic figure skater from Kazakhstan who was stabbed after a dispute with people who allegedly tried to steal a mirror from his car in his home city of Almaty. He died of massive blood loss from multiple wounds at the age of 25 in 2018. The song has sad lyrics: “a soul’s plea for help or an earthly being in distress” because it is a human being who is in anguish searching for the absolute. MY THOUGHTS AND OPINION OF THIS SONG (REF CCC): Suffering and death is one of the realities of human life. It is important that we should know the basic truth about it, so that it will not cause us fear and distress in our human life’s , but rather to remind us all of our ultimate destiny as people of faith. For me, there are 3 kinds of suffering we experienced in life: 1st suffering that God allows, 2nd suffering which is the results of our own choices and decisions and 3rd is the suffering which is cause by other people to us. In whatever forms of suffering we are experiencing, know that, if it is discerned well it will gain us eternal merit. Note that, it is not important how much and how long we suffer, or who cause us to suffer, but how is our attitude towards it when it comes into our life…? All of these three can be an opportunity of grace that we will grow in virtue, when we accept it with humility, discernment and faith in God. Our usual human tendency is, if we can, we try to avoid any kind of pain and suffering in our life. However we can’t deny also that life is mixed up of many learning experiences both in joys and in difficulties and I supposed we need it both, because it contributes and helps us mature and grow over time in many aspects of life. Suffering and death may seem contrary to our own human thinking or world’s way of thinking but in it, there’s a certain wisdom which is richer and deeper that no one can fully understand Suffering reminds us the real fact that we are all fragile human beings; that we are limited and we are not God. Sufferings are human reality and consequences of sin that affects us all. It helps us see the real worth and value of things and meaning in life. It sharpens our awareness that this earth is not our permanent and true home. We should remember that we are only strangers and pilgrims on this earth”. Suffering purifies and refines us of any life’s superficiality into an authentic one. Though no one really is actively searching for suffering in his / her life, but honestly truth compels us to admit that sufferings do have a great value in our life and by experiencing it personally in reality, you will never be the same person. But through the original sin that enters human lives, our nature has been wounded, and is now subject to suffering and death. Death for us is a frightening mystery because we are being stripped off of all our attachments to this world; our body lies corrupt; our immortal soul goes to meet the Lord. We will see the whole truth of our lives. Death creates in us a feelings of fear, separation, sadness and pain. Many times we evade this reality and we try to question and even argue with God why…? But all our efforts failed because whether we like it or not at the end, we all die. Death comes in our life anytime anywhere. No material things, good health, young age can guarantee of its extension. The truth is… in front of death we are all poor and powerless. If this life were the only one we had, death would definitely be the great tragedy. Death is such a peaceful, joyful event in our life, if we die reconciled with God and at peace with others as well. This was a chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan is 6ft 3, 1/4 and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 26 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition and it is about to start his doctorate in Musicology. Not your usual talent shows. All competitors on this show are established, successful professional singers. Dimash was the exception here. He was invited by the producers of this show as an experimental wild card competitor. He was no t successful, not popular and not established in China...in fact, he was unknown in China. BUT NOT FOR LONG. Upon premiere broadcast of this performance....Dimash became an instant popular celebrity in China who needed bodyguards. He hasn't looked back since. He has since grown tremendously as a vocalist/performer/entertainer/musician/composer/artiste.

He was 23 at the time four years ago and this song just barely scratches the surface of what this guy can do. Virtually everything he performs is beyond impressive. Suggest "Adagio," (2017 version on The Singer), 'Olimpico," "Across Endless Dimensions," "Your Love," "Love Is Like a Dream," "Love of Tired Swans," and any of his traditional Kazakh folk songs.
