I have deeply ingrained negative core beliefs from my childhood. I grew up in an alcoholic family and it is as if dark clouds are hanging over my childhood. I tend to think that there was absolutely nothing positive about the environment I grew up in. I also believe that I never felt safe growing up. However, using the questions on the cognitive restructuring worksheet, I am starting to look for evidence that can dispute my beliefs. I hope to have a more balanced view of myself and of my past, so that I can live a happier life.

This simple video has explained numerous observations I've made about someone close to me. I never knew there was such a thing as "cognitive distortions", and its impact has taken a toll on our relationship. I'm even more fascinated by how the individual exhibits all the facets of cognitive distortions mentioned in this video. Thank you for this edification.

I know.. I have just recognised I have all these traits. At times, it's more controllable, but if in combination with exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and anxiety, it all becomes exacerbated.

I appreciate everything about your site and the spectacular videos. They are simple, instructive, and thorough. Your voice is a great asset because it is soothing and well paced. I’m contributing $2.99 a month, but that is pittance to volunteer compared to the worth of your work. Thank you so much for blessing my well-being and with this important information and your dedication to passing it along!

I can tell you from experience that cognitive distortions can make you feel absolutely miserable. What takes practice is noticing when it happens, especially if you've been thinking in these ways for most of your life.

Dont "SHOULD" on your self or others. Its rude and inconsiderate. This video is correct, how would you respond to someone else if they were going through this situation or made these statements about themselves. Try and keep a balance.

Hey, a little late reply but might help you. The harder you try to avoid a certain thought, the more you end up thinking it. Practice thinking about something else going on around you when you start thinking in a distressing way.

Is it REBT has the same benefits as CBT ? I did REBT in the past but didn't help . Can REBT help instead of CBT ? I have a book called : Felling good written by Dr David Burns. I will read it now. Please answer my question. (Sorry for my English).
@SelfHelpToons
@SelfHelpToons 2 жыл бұрын
They're similar, but just because it didn't work in the past doesn't mean it will never work. There's so much variation in what people do in CBT and how effective it is depending on your therapist and where you're at in your life. I often have clients who tell me CBT doesn't work for them, and then we do CBT, and it works. And I'm sure I have clients who found CBT with me didn't help at all and they try it again later and it does help.

Can you state that experiencing schizophrenic symptoms is Seth that is very stressful and should be healed? My experience is so owervelming and now I don't know what to do?
@SelfHelpToons
@SelfHelpToons 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jelena, thanks for your question. Although the descriptions sound similar, cognitive distortions are different than delusions that accompany schizophrenia. Cognitive distortions are a concept from cognitive therapy related to negative thinking patterns that contribute to things like depression, low self-esteem and anger. They're not really related to symptoms of schizophrenia.
