Have you ever wondered why subwoofers have more than one connection port on the back? Have you thought to yourself, am I using the best one or even the right one? Wonder no more, here is a walkthrough about how and why to best connect a subwoofer to your processor or receiver!
Quality Sub Cable: amzn.to/2UsVhNb
Quality RCA Y-Splitter: amzn.to/3xL3wCG
SVS Basic Wireless Kit: amzn.to/3xL3jiS
SVS Tri-Band Wireless Kit: amzn.to/3qnI8Rx

I just found out that the rca splitter i'm using from my amplifier (with 2 sub outs) was the culprit for having ground loop humming sound, then i got a single thicker rca cable plugged it to one of my amplifier's sub outs going to my active sub's LFE port and it solved my problem right away. One of my happiest days ever. 😄

Yep, some splitters are not grounded properly, or in the way the particular sub needs.

Great info. I have a 2-part question. #1 I have a powered sub. I am connecting it via the speaker input terminals. If I add a pair of speakers to the sub's speaker output terminals, will the subwoofer still operate correctly, (using its internal crossover), and #2, will the added pair of speakers play at full-range frequencies coming from the amplifier?

This video is EXCELLENT! I'm pretty green at this and a the info you shared as very clear. I just bought a JBL Stage 120 500W sub so I'm trying to find a good cable. I don't believe xlr is an option. I watched a video today on PSAUDIO channel where he suggests not using the pre-amp out to a powered sub. He said connecting it to an active output on the receiver conveys a better sound than by usubg the regular sub out connection. That was very confusing to me so I'm just goung to connect it to the pre out sub.
@rivonYT
@rivonYT 6 ай бұрын
I agree with Mr McGowan (PSAudio), I have tested both pre outs and speaker (high level) connections to a SVS sub and the speaker connection sounds better (in part because of the subs crossover) in a stereo setup. I think it depends on the speaker wire gauge and isolation. But in multichannel configuration it is better to let the DSP figure out the low frequency signal, so LFE it is.

Excellent help. Thank you. I only have 2 tower speakers & want to add a sub to my Onkyo TX-NR696 Receiver. Sub (Sony SA-CS9) came with a RCA connector but is very thin. I guess i need a more robust cable for quality sound. I do NOT have a input for a XLR cable.

I just used coaxial cable for my active sub and the humming gone. It's a pretty long cable like 45 feet long and it just works fine. Coaxial cable might be a budget solution for those who don't want to buy some expensive subwoofer cables.

I've seen people recommending speaker wires over rca. Their reasoning was they both pick up noise the same but noise affects the low level signal (rca) much more than the high level signal so signal to noise ratio on the speaker wires would be better. Does that make any sense?

One quick question, the wireless connection from emotiva, have you tried that one? I bought some emotiva amps and got a free wireless subwoofer connector. Also is there any difference when using a Y splitter off the wireless to both of the subs inputs, not just the LFE or is it the same as running a wire from the amp to a Y splitter?
@COGuyStuff
@COGuyStuff 2 жыл бұрын
I did not try the Emotiva. It depends on the sub, some have a summing input, others don't. The specs may indicate it if so, not always. Sometimes you just have to try and see.

There was a job 20 year ago. A hotel had a fire alarm and was picking up EMF. From the high power lines going over the building on 3 rd floor. It was a brand new wire to reinstall shielded wire but was o much for them. 2 Nd opinion was to buy rolls and rolls of Tinfoil. 2 on fire alarm wire and only ground 1 side to ground. To bleed the EMF way to ground. The tinfoil is the same stuff that in shielded wire. And again in shielded wire only to ground 1 end to ground if both side grounded it makes antenna I still remember we charge customers tinfoil and it work excellent.

Hi There CO Guy Stuff, very helpful video-thank you! I am hoping to purchase a subwoofer to use with my Yamaha NS10 monitors in a small home studio setting. Do you have any recommendations for a good subwoofer that would perhaps compliment them? A lot of subwoofers seem to be geared towards the home theatre setting and therefore tend to only use rca connectors, but I am hoping to find a subwoofer that uses xlr, trs or dual ts. I will be connecting it to a monitor controller that has trs (single) output. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Plenty use balanced XLR, but you won't find anything good using unbalanced TRS jacks, no. Nothing besides maybe some low end computer stuff. You just have to get over a certain quality/price threshold for XLR to be common. Like speaker level is on most low end, XLR stays on the higher. But, since you are using unbalanced, all you have to use is an RCA adaptor if what you find doesn't have it. No difference.

Greetings! The amplifier (2.0) does not have a separate Subwoofer output, but does have an "RCA R\L Line Out." Question: whether subwoofers with an input connection are suitable - "RCA R\L In" or "Sub in" (one RCA input plug), as I understand it, I will need to use the "Y" RCA splitter. Did I get it right? Or are BOTH connectivity options suitable?

@@White_King using an adapter at either end will drop one of the three wires from the xlr and only give two wires to the speaker... thus defeating the purpose. Any noise in the cable would not be polarized out as the balanced third wire information is not given to the speaker to do its thing.

Hello , I ordered a pair of RCA cable for 35 feet for my speakers as well as a single RCA at 20 ft for my sub, I paid around 1000 dollars for these cables as they are hand made with special care, I would like to know what is the best practice for dragging these cables along base board . Can I put them into an sleeve and run both cables across the room ? Is there going to be interference from one to the other ? Or as long as they are not power cables , I should be fine . Thanks

Actually raising the cables off the ground using a 3inch gap between the floor and wire. Throw some Black wire protection/shield over the wire cut 2 15 ft lengths and your getting the best non interference signal you can get. Especially on wood floors.

The SVS Soundpath wireless adapter kit just simply sucks.
