Craig Harrison Thank you for your positive support. I'm glad this has helped you. I am working on more of these for the specific factions as we speak. I personally agree that the in-game tutorials need to display some of the mechanics that are needed not just for campaign but also to get into competitive multiplayer. At the same time, i'd be out of things to post on my KZfaq if they did :D

Stormless, I've been playing the game for years and never thought to use spacebar to find mines. Now I use it to find mortars that have been spotted - hit spacebar, even if the unit is no longer visible, its location is in the middle of the screen. Thanks!

+Maester of Ceremonies Glad to have helped. Once you decide whether you prefer Grid Key or Classic, take a little time to memorise the important keys like grenade, retreat, reinforce and reverse. And then focus on only using those and never clicking. Your micro will improve rapidly!

+Maester of Ceremonies With regards to countering maxim spam ISG is a little underwhelming tbh. It doesn't hurt to have one though. I find that the best thing you can do is to go for the luchs. Try to avoid equipping shrecks on your squads so that you benefit from a 5 man rifle squad rather than 4 man. This will allow you to get more health and model hits against the maxims. The shrecks can really put you at a disadvantage if you upgrade early. It may or may not work for you but at the moment i'm currently finding Jaeger light infantry very effective against both maxims and USF m1919's. These units perform really well in buildings and the infiltration grenades work wonders! I do play with fans yes, not all the time because I do like to spend the time I have practicing with my 2v2 AT teams but this is fine with me. Add me on Steam, same name!

It may be worth mentioning but if you have units that place sandbags or wire, hold SHIFT while you are placing it so that you can keep building. It might make things easier when building defensive positions

A good comment. I think I did mention somewhere that Shift-Cue commands can be used for just about everything, even retreating! You can get your units, building then moving, then throwing a grenade and retreating all on it's own :D Use it wisely ;)

dude I've this game like forever and never got into it thanks for the video, I actually started to try and im enjoying it I just would like a few pointers on how to move the camera arround since I got those small keyboards and its hard as hell to just move with the scroll bottom of the mouse

No problems and good to hear you're enjoying the game! Everyone moves around in their own way tbh, but I can tell you that my way of moving round uses a hotkey program to map my side mouse button to the tactical map. That way I can open the map quickly and jump to where I want. I am also clicking on the mini map to quickly jump to locations as well. If it's moving the camera only a slight distance I will usually hold the middle mouse button and drag the camera, or edge the mouse at the corner of the screen. (( You can adjust how sensitive each of these are in settings) I also know of some players who use arrow keys to move around, but it's not great for microing units and using hotkey. It's one of those things you have to find what works for your RTS style

I would recommend using "classic hotkeys off" because whilst the hotkeys for the base factions are pretty good in classic mode, for the Western Front Armies the hotkeys are much worse. I believe with classic hotkeys rifleman smoke grenade is on M or N. That is just terrible I also recommend turning sticky selection off, for me it seemed to cause more misclicks than it saved. Those misclicks often involved a squad running out of position and either having to retreat or dying

+tightrope gaming For USF the smoke is 'M' and anti tank grenade 'N'. You have to have a very proactive thumb swivel motion pushing your thumb to this area without your middle and index finger leaving the 'main region'. I don't mind it to much because I am a Pianist and i'm used to the extended finger motions but I will agree with you that most people will find 'Grid Keys' a lot easier and effective for them. It will always come down to a matter of choice though. Interesting to hear your thoughts on Sticky Selection. I have the exact opposite problem :P I always used to lose the unit I was controlling when I moved the map to check out the area I wished to send them too. I think this might have something to do with the way we control the map. Do you use the arrow keys to move around or the minimap click?

Stormless Minimap or tac map for jumping around, mouse scroll for scrolling. I came from Warcraft 3 so maybe it is what I am familiar with. I started with sticky selection on but found I had a lot of those "how did that unit end up over there" moments because of it

When you start an online scirmish and it shows the generals whenever I click one and choose one, can you switch generals in game?

No, you aren't able to do that. The idea of the Commander system is that you pick one as part of your strategy on that map and stick with it. It's part of the games tactics that you must think about carefully. Strategic reasons to pick a commander might include: 1. Choosing a commander that has good early game units and upgrades ( Like 1 CP partisans for Soviets etc and radio intercept) which allows you to have a good early game and then keep the pressure on. These commanders tend not to have stronger late game units and rely on you keeping pressure on your opponent to win VP's early on. 2. Choose a commander after identifying your opponents commander. If you see a unit that means you know what your opponents commander is then you can pick a commander which has counters for him. Picking a commander later on can be a great tactical decision as it allows you a commander advantage over your opponent. 3. The map you are playing can benefit some commanders more. If there are lots of buildings on the map you may enjoy partisans which can spawn from them etc. Long open maps might favour more long range late game units like the Elephant in Jaeger armor etc. You'll get to know which is best the more you play tbh. But yes, you wont be able to change once you've selected your commander. So choose wisely both before you start the game and when you are in-game. +MonoVoyager I can't reply to your comment for some reason. It just says 'Linked Comment' so I assume your google settings don't allow for responses outside of your circle! You can't ungroup units that i'm aware, you can only change their hotkey assignments. If you're desperate to remove the hotkey you can kill the unit :)

Thanks a lot. Just a question: how do you set a hotkey for tactical map? I know the default setting is 0 on Num keypad but that's apparently not very handy...

+Ying Chen Tactical map is 'NUM 0' AND 'INSERT (INS)' on your keyboard. Neither are very helpful positions. If you have a mouse with 5 buttons i.e (2 buttons under your thumb position) I would highly recommend you put the tactical map on mouse button 4. This is the quickest way you can use it. I'm afraid i'm not familiar with remapping a keyboard key to another position on the keyboard. You will need to use a program like X-Mouse and reprogram the 'NUM 0' key to a different key on your keyboard. You can download X-Mouse from here www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm If you watch this video from 2:59 you will see a demonstration of how to download and set this up to work in Company of Heroes 2.

How 99.99% play CoH: 1. Rush fuel 2. Spam MG/spam emplacements (Brits) 3. Blob the whole game. 4. Wait for heavy tanks and forfeit any advantages you would've gotten if you teched for medium tanks.

The USF tutorial would basically be an overview of what USF can do, it's characteristics that make it unique and the cool ways you can use them quickly to make cool plays. Such as the instant pop out tank critical repairs which is a life saver

I would highly recommend a mouse if you want to play seriously. macbook will have a disadvantage as you dont have any hotkeys to open the tactical map. even a cheap mouse will make a huge difference I think

+MonoVoyager Oh we can finally reply to Mono's comments! :) As far as I know there isn't a deselect as it's not necessary. IF you need to group another unit you just change the hotkey, why would you ever need to deselect it?

CTRL + A will give you the ability to click anywhere on the map and it will ping an alert to your teammate If you need to get his attention by text type '/emote' before your text to make it a purple colour. Hope this helps!

Hi there. now i m familiar with the game, i would like to get good at it.. How do those pros like Hans being able to move cursor with arrow keys and still use hotkeys on the keyboard. they hardly click on the tactical map either. did they somehow move their arrow keys to for example, s,z,x,c ?? i would appreciate any enlightenment!

Hi Edge. All players have different methods of using the controls.Some people have managed scripts too but most people use the standard Hans - Middle mouse button to drag scroll the screen (Not arrow keys) | Micro with left hand Luvnest - Actually uses both and moves his hand quickly from side to side (Current #1 tournament player). Luvnest uses tac map a lot. A lot of the top players have stayed with me and I've watched them play including VonIvan, Hans & Luvnest. There isn't anything funky going on :) Just good use of the controls! :)

I guess i need to practice a lot, will start by speeding up the mouse cursor speed now, well after house work and kids homework is done I mean. :) looking forward to your next uploads..

I will surely link the tac map as soon as i get a decent mouse, ( broke the 5 button one a month ago playing coh2 lol ). Its kinda difficult to use the on screen map for sending troops around so i need to get it soon :) thanks again for coming back to me. I am new to the game and have a very stupid question, that cant figure it out. You can use the abilities from more than a commander? once I select one of the 3 to use a abilitiy depending the command points, cant go back to select the abilities from another one. if it is so, why select 3 for only using one?

Hi there. Don't worry there is no such thing as a stupid question :) Let me explain. The idea behind this is that you are picking the one that you think is going to help you out the most in the situation you are in. This could be for the following reasons; 1. The commander might have a unit that works really well on the map 2. The commander may provide counter units for your opponents strategy 3. The commander may have abilities such as weapons or artillery that support your playstyle Selecting the right commander is part of the games strategy and once you lock that commander in, you can't go back. It would be a little unfair if you could switch commanders during a game as it would be very difficult for your opponent to know what to expect. Part of the games core strategy is that you learn to identify what commander your opponent is using and respond to it. Example: My opponent is playing Ostheer and I see 'Assault Grenadiers' on the field. I immediately know he is playing 'Mechanized doctrine' and will try to re-work my army composition to counter that commander. Each commander has a tell tale sign which will allow you to know what they are using and this is part of the games deep strategy. You don't have to pick a commander straight away. Part of the strategy is hiding your choice, trying to identify their choice first, or going straight in with a commander for a strong early game! Go to your base building and on the left of where you select your units to build there are options to upgrade your HQ. Heavy panzer Korps requires upgrading to level 4 ( the last one)

Welcome to the game firstly! Let me explain. Before the game starts you are able to create a 'loudout' of different commanders in your inventory. Each commander has 5 different abilities or call in units such as Tiger Tanks or Heavy ISU's. When you are inside the game, your 3 commanders you have preselected will show up in the middle of the toolbar and you can select 1 of them in-game to use for the battle at any point. The 'xp' you get will unlock command points as the game goes on and these automatically make the commander abilities available to use when you get enough. Once you've hit the required command points to use the ability you can click on the picture of the ability and use it on the map. The bigger abilities require bigger amounts of command points and so you'll only see these big devastating units or artillery strikes later on into the game. If you are unsure how to select your commanders etc, when you are in the lobby screen look for the green box on the right hand side of your playercard. You can equip bulletins, commanders, skins and victory strikes to use in game and customize your loadouts so that you've always got a good commander for every map!

Easy AI to give you enough time. You have enough time for a tutorial and a nap with that kind of AI.

+Thomas Laut It certainly lives up to the name 'easy' lol. I find it difficult to talk constructively and play the game at the same time though. Easy AI was the only option :P

Hi Emir, To talk to everyone you hold 'shift' + 'enter' - This should be the same in most games. Pressing 'enter' alone will allow you to talk to your team only If you need to get someones attention write '/emote' at the start of your message to make it turn purple :)

+Dery Kristy I would just like to add to this. If I can get the email to work again I am happy for people to email questions or so on to this address. (it's an old work email address) I don't know why but the damn thing stopped working properly last year and i've not really needed it for any thing. If you pop me an email there, don't expect me to see it!

This is just a setup guide for new people so they can set up the game and UI to play efficiently. A lot of people struggle with the game and i honestly think it's because the default settings are unintuitive. Hope it helped you somehow anyway, if you have feedback it's always welcome

+Riskiboy0101 Yes, this is something that has been changed recently as the game does constantly. Details like this can not be consistently accurate with a game that is patched so drastically frequently. Please take this as a general example of heavy tanks costing more pop cap as was intended
