(Not debunking just something to take into consideration as a buyer) Worked on a 69 GTO today which is why I’m here and looking for one. Rented one of these style compressors and the fork that goes on the bottom doesnt always clear. I got the job done but had to take extreme caution. There’s washers on the bottom that need to be in a certain spot and if they’re not they move so in order to get them there the threaded stick had to be at a sketchy angle (pointed to the left rubbing against the coil on the spring) causing it to compress kinda in a half moon 🌙 Also they tend to shift as more tension is getting put on it so always pay attention to it. Lastly taking it off point it away from you because in my case since it was at an arch one side slipped off causing it to pop and the other side was still holding on to it and still need to be loosened. Great tool but definitely something to take into consideration as it is a very dangerous job and anyone who’s a rookie or DIY that may not know the safety precautions could potentially get hurt. I always put a chain up in thru the spring and out Thru maybe the middle of it and chain it to the frame as a back up just in case so it doesn’t fly out. Hoped this helped. I can make a video if somebody needed it. 4/10 rating

Great video, dealer wanted $1,100 to replace rear lower control arm on a 2013 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid, rented this tool at local parts store, and worked like a charm. The alternative DIY was to remove entire rear subfame, uggghhh. Replace $15 bushing on lower control arm and back everything went. Pain in the ass until you find the right tool.

Why’d you rent a coil spring compressor for a LCA??

Yeah Im confused about the washer placement... It looks like they should be under the fork... And on my truck the hole that u slide the shaft threw was big enough to allow the shaft nut threw when I tightened it but not with my socket on it so I'm having to keep 2 of the washers under the lower control arm and one under the fork.. which means when I drop the lower control arm which means we'll have to find a way to release and then compress it to the lower control arm that I'm installing

I have the set for outside compression of spring like McPherson struts. Only used them a few times. Worked just fine for me. I don't do strut work anymore, at least not taking them apart. But yes the style you chose is way better for the Camaro since there is limited space.

Good video! Some of the wall mounted coil spring compressors also allow sliding. I’ll clamp a vice grip style tool on the troublesome ones that have a lot of coil angle that causes it. Btw: I reported a spammer that put one of those virus links in your comments. You can add some of those abbreviations to your word block list in studio. Not sure if you’ve tried that. ;)

Very nice. Thank you. Ya I try to delete them as fast as possible. I've tried putting things in to block the and they are always changing stuff and it only blocks like 80 percent of them. But it's better than none lol. I really appreciate it. Thank you

I just tried this one for a 77 Camaro and it let go of the spring! Spring went flying across the shop! It actually bent the hook enough to let go. Wow. Junk. Lucky it didn’t let go while I was fitting it onto the control arm. A zip tie would never hold a classic Chevy spring.

That compressor with the fork is almost impossible to use it wont go on straight and when i did try to compress the spring it would not compress it the hardest tool i ever tried to use unless someone is standing next to you showing you how to use it you will take forever to learn how to use it please show a video on it

Thanks Tony. I borrowed this exact kit from AutoZone. It looked strange and I was thinking how is this going to work on my Miata (double wishbone / shock inside spring). I'm glad I watched your vid. I totally have the wrong tool and my shocks are arriving 3 days from now.

Good video. I have a two hook end style, bought years ago. Did not work well on Studebaker and dodge trucks. This style may work better. Price is much better than what I paid for mind. What to see how it works for you.

Idk if I asked you before, are you attempting a sloppy type build?
@TonyTheTechnician
@TonyTheTechnician 2 жыл бұрын
Not very familiar with a sloppy build. From my understanding those are budget builds? This started off on a budget and now I have a good amount of money in it. Not just into the engine but everything on the car. It will likely only have 400ish hp for now until I supercharge it but the car is built to handle alot more than 400 so when I do start laying down more power the car is already prepared for it.
